2. The press is thriving overseas
so if you can read languages besides English, you'll still get a clue what's going on.

A few of them even produce English editions for us American blockheads.

Media consolidation has already killed a lot of papers by turning them into McPapers, pulling stories right off the AP wire and dumping their local investigative reporters so papers tend to be exactly the same except for the weather report and high school sports scores. Advertising to print ratio has gone up so far that the main thing worth reading in a lot of those "local" papers is the sale adverts.

The net didn't kill them off. Consolidation did.
