Outsourced, laid off, and training my replacement |
|
Not only am I getting outsourced, (OK, the company calls it an "Early Retirement Incentive"; I call it a Highly Leveraged Layoff) not only is my job getting handed to a contractor, not only do I find out this morning I have to train my replacement, the contractor they bring in is a friend of mine!

1. Remember to tell your replacement that the boss LIKES it when you pee in his coffee. |
|
I don't know how effective my training would be if I was being forced out...

2. I saw this coming and was planning on my training being *completely* ineffective |
|
But since the contractor they brought in is a friend/former colleague; I can't.

3. Meh...I'd do it anyway. |
|
Your friend isn't to blame for you losing your job, but I don't believe you're morally required to give anybody good guidance in this situation...

4. I agree. The day I "have to" train my replacement is the day I quit. |
|
Why should anyone give away all their years of experience to someone else so they can take your job.

6. Any chance of you coming back as a contractor? |
|
I know it would be a big cut in pay and benefits and seniority would go out the window but it would be something.
And having you come back and being paid less might be something they had in mind too.
Greedy management bastards like this must have no conscience at all.

9. I already said 'yes' to the early retirement package. |

Part of the agreement is that I cannot work in any capacity, even as a contractor, for this company again.
I saw the writing on the wall; all of our desktop and server support functions are getting outsourced so I could take the package (which is fairly lucrative) or wait and get fired with nothing. That's why I call it a "highly leveraged layoff."
