4. Do you mean .39? .039 is less than half the legal driving limit.

It's like 2 beers for a guy his size.

5. .39 according to one gossip site
Once at the hospital, David’s blood alcohol level was determined to be a .39. And though he was barely breathing when he arrived, the “America’s Got Talent” judge is said to be on the mend.

14. That's probably more accurate. .39 is a potentially lethal amount of ETOH in the blood. eom

9. Oh ok
That is high. I can't recall the highest number I ever heard of but it is in that range. He didn't go to the hospital but he did request a ride home and if you knew this guy he NEVER asks for a ride home when drinking. He drinks all the time for long period of times. It surprises me because this was when I was in the army he is Air-Assualt qualified and one of the best long distance runners in our company.

12. i once arrested a .454
iirc, .4 is the ld50 for alcohol, or near to that.

it takes a PRACTICED alcoholic to be anywhere above .3 or so. most people are very intoxicated in the .2's. alcoholics can function in the .3's and .4's

18. You're right. Very practiced indeed as he was still conscious
I was at pre-deployment house party and one of the people involved w/ urine testing and breathylyzers brought one as a joke to see where people was and I think the individual mentioned was either .42 or .44 and he was still conscious but he was sitting on a cooler banging on it as if it were a drumset next to a campfire listening to Johnny Cash.

25. I've known 2 guys who blew over .5
These guys wer'nt just practiced, they were virtuosos! Uncle was wandering into the Jiffy Mart one evening to consult with the wino steward, and he spied a 6 foot stuffed ET that was the grand prize in the Christmas promotion. Unk squints at it, shuffles twoard the cooler "Friend of yours?"? "Naw" says Unk "But now I know who I've been talkin' to on Monday mornin's."

16. High indeed
A friend of a friend was so sauced on a near-constant basis that drying out was an event all in itself. As his BAC dipped into the acceptable, non-lethal range, he started having visual hallucinations. According to this friend, it was scarier than anything the guy did drunk. I don't know if that guy ever got off alcohol, but it can be a helluva drug (with apologies to cocaine).

Time for the Hoff to get Hasseled about his drinking if this report is anywhere near true.

22. Alcohol withdrawal can kill you..
It differs from opiods, cocaine and meth in that, you just *want* to die with those drugs.

28. Remember "Kill or Cure?"
Thet was the nickname of the Keeler Cure for alcaholisim. One of my uncle's stories involved the local storekeeper, who was sent for the cure - last time they ever saw him.

11. That's a fatal level. From wikipedia:
Unless a person has developed a high tolerance for alcohol, a BAC rating of 0.20% represents very serious intoxication (most first-time drinkers would be unconscious by about 0.15%), and 0.35%–0.40% represents potentially fatal alcohol poisoning. 0.40% is the accepted LD50, the dose that is lethal for 50% of adult humans. There have been cases of people remaining conscious at BACs above 0.40%

33. Yeah, it's usually lethal, even for 'practiced' drinkers.
Here's one example of someone who had one of the highest BACs ever recorded:

Stanley Kobierowski, a 34-year-old man of North Providence got arrested after crashing into a highway message board on Interstate 95 in Providence. When police stopped him, the man could hardly move to get out of the car then he grabbed the car to oppose his being taken out of it. Police had to carry him to the nearest lane and back to their barracks, the report says.

A breath test indicated blood alcohol level of 0.489 percent, followed by 0.491, said Maj. Steven O'Donnell.

http://www.infoniac.com/offbeat-news/police-arrests-a-man-with-highest-record-blood-alcohol-level-.html

Anything above 0.24 and you are seriously drunk, to where you can't walk. When you get to 0.30, the vast majority would be passed out. I got popped for a DUI in my teens and my BAC was 0.28. Needless to say, I don't remember much of that night.

Interestingly, one of the warning signs for being an alcoholic is having a higher initial tolerance than others. In other words, you're more likely to become an alcoholic if you regularly 'drink other people under the table'. Eventually though, alcoholics do go through a lessening of their tolerance, as their liver becomes more and more corroded and damaged, it becomes less and less able to process the liquor, and it starts to take less and less to get them drunk again. That typically takes decades of heavy drinking, but it does happen. Many other changes happen to their body as well, like alteration of brain structures to change of hormone levels (higher estrogen levels in both men and women).

Whenever you drink enough booze to kill a horse and live to tell about it, that's when you might start to think you have a problem.
