Single Payer HEROES!!!!!!!!

By Clark Newhall Dr. Margaret Flowers and other single payer advocates took direct action this morning and got carted off to jail. Fifteen of our allies demanded to know why single payer ws not even allowed a seat at the table yesterday during 'Mad Max" Baucus's Senate Finance Committee sham hearing on insurance-company-friendly fake 'reform."

Notably, Baucus made mouth noises about the 'respect' he has for single payer advocates. Apparently , his respect does not extend to allowing our ideas to be heard in Congress. Meantime, his Senatorial colleagues were joking and laughing about the protest, paying it no attention. Yet, the clowns at the testimony table, including Karen Ignoble Ignani, were accorded the greatest respect by the clowns at the hearing table. Margaret and those who were with you -- you are HEROES.

You make us proud. Each of us can take a lesson from you and each of us must do what we feel is the most we can do. Without all of us acting together, more millions will die through the mis-managed and neglectful health insurance driven non-system. Baucus, your hypocrisy makes me ill. Obama, you are complicit in this crap.Journalists, your silence on single payer shows where your real professional allegiance lies -- in your pockets with the big business money that lines them.

Here are the folks who were arrested this morning: Katie Robbins, Russell Mokhiber, Kevin Zeese, Carol Paris, Margaret Flowers, Mark Dudzic, Jean Fox (?), Adam Schneider.

5. I heard thier protests on NPR this afternoon
Good for them - even if the plan could not pass, that does NOT mean that the idea is not even worth hearing. Shame on Maxipoo.

6. Give Max Baucus a piece of your mind too.
Tell Baucus what you think. Leave a voicemail message at his 800 number:

HealthJustice Action Alert
Baucus' Incredible Arrogance Makes Me Angry
5/5/09
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Today Mad Max Baucus showed us what he means when he says 'single payer is off the table.' When single payer advocates politely asked for a seat at the table, where 15 insurance flunkies were waiting to testify to his Senate committee, Sen. Baucus sneered at them and told them they would get more police. That gave all of Baucus' fellow insurance flunkies (and all the other clowns in the hearing room) a big laugh. Then Baucus hypocritically told the audience how much he respected single payer, as the police were arresting eight people who just wanted to present a point of view.
I am angry about this arrogant abuse of power. If you are angry, now is your chance to tell Baucus.
Call 800-578-4171, choose option 1, and connect to his office. If no one answers, it probably is because Baucus is too chicken to even listen to the angry messages.
Alternatively, call each one of his offices in Montana.
10. There's a photographer in the room, where are the pictures?
I watched the video and saw a photographer, but haven't been able to find any pictures.
Do you know where I can find pictures of these citizens?
They act as if single payer is some sort of wild eyed idea. Nothing could be further from the truth.
15. We need a "cell phone" revolution
When I heard about the Senate hearing on the John Dean conference call, I called Baucus' office and told him we need the "Public Option" passed as part of the Healthcare Bill. this is what Dean is recommending and how I believe it is politically possible to get to Single Payer. But whether you agree with the Public Option approach or believe we can push to go straight to single payer - here's the thing - we can't get there by typing alone. In the absence of a massive healthcare protest on the streets of DC (by the way, I can't understand why we're not doing this?) we need direct and sustained action by the thousands of folks here at DU. So, here's what I suggest. Take out your cell phone and program the direct phone numbers of the key Senators who will ultimately determine what kind of health care we get. This list should include everybody on Baucus' committee as well as your own state senators and perhaps a few others. Now, here's the good part. Call these fucker's repeatedly until we get what we want! If every body on DU does this it will be like a virtual massive DC demonstration right inside the Senate offices! (See, this is more effective than typing messages to each other because the Senators are not on DU reading our comments)
The Cell Phone Revolution! Push the button Spock!
I hope the campaign for single payer doesn't work to destroy the public option.
16. The Republican Wing of the Democratic Party is FIRMLY in control,
Election 2008 was a crushing defeat for the Liberal Wing of the Democratic Party.
"Centrism"....for those who are Half Republican.
"There are forces within the Democratic Party who want us to sound like kinder, gentler Republicans. I want us to compete for that great mass of voters that want a party that will stand up for working Americans, family farmers, and people who haven't felt the benefits of the economic upturn."---Paul Wellstone
