Memo to Bishops: Most Catholics Aren't Listening
In the presidential election, Catholics voted for Obama, and Hispanic Catholics, who are a growing percentage of U.S. Catholics, gave him around two-thirds of their vote. Since the election, Obama has continued to do as well if not better with Catholics in the polls.

Nor are Catholics listening to those bishops who have condemned Notre Dame University for inviting the President to speak at its commencement this month. According to a Pew Forum poll, 48 percent of Catholics have not even heard of the controversy. And when asked whether it was right or wrong for Notre Dame to invite Obama to speak and to give him an honorary degree, 50 percent of Catholics said it was right and only 28 percent said it was wrong.

1. Absolutely true.
My Hispanic family supports Obama. We're embarrassed by Rome.

2. It's this new pope
who thinks he can stamp his little red shoes and get his way in all matters.

I think even if he starts excommunicating American politicians who uphold civil law that doesn't follow church dogma they'll continue not listening.

It's high time for the church to get a visit from the tax man. That applies to any church that wants its religious dogma to become civil law.

3. If you read the entire article, it notes that the Vatican wants to get along with
Obama. It's the American bishops making all the fuss.

4. Do you really think the bishops wipe their noses
without papal approval? You can bet your ass there is a vast divide between the Vatican's public position in the press and official church position.

6. I agree, but Rome has a bigger world view
Also what is conservative in Italy is much more liberal than being conservative in the US. While abortion is A important issue for the Vatican and greater Europe, it is not THE issue like it often is here in the states. Many conservative Catholics in the domestic movement reach out for fundie Protestants to convert over. So they overlap pretty close on their talking points. Rome has a broader approach as they deal with more than just North America.

No doubt though, that almost all the bishops who came out against Obama speaking at Notre Dame are looking for an internal promotion to Archbishop or Cardinal by speaking nonsense like they do.

7. Catholics have never listened!!
The mass used to be delivered in latin which only a very few people understood. The parishioners only followed the church's teachings because thats what their parents had donr before. So before when the people went to mass they heard latin now what they hear is Blah...blah...blah. Those who do go and start to understand end up leaving the church because they start to realize its a fallacy.

What we need to do is to ignore this silliness and put people into power that realize that religion is a distraction to making good solid decisions.
