Elisabeth Hasselbeck Disowns "Ignoramus" Joe The Plumber Over "Queers" Comment
Yeah, I know they're both nutty. But I think it's good she has said something. Joe the Asshole is an idiot that needs to fade away into obscurity.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/05/07/elisabeth-hasselbeck-diso_n_199152.html

Elisabeth Hasselbeck disowned "Joe The Plumber" Thursday morning on "The View."

Hasselbeck, who campaigned on the trail with Sarah Palin in October, took Joe the Plumber to task for his recent comments that "queers" aren't welcome around his children.

"I think this is an ignoramus statement," Hasselbeck said. "In that specified corner to which he had a life during this election, I was even a person who thought, you know what, power to Joe the Plumber at that point. Well, Joe the Plumber is not invited anywhere around me. "

Joy Behar promptly screamed, "Turning! Turning! Turning!" implying that Hasselbeck, a stalwart Republican, was turning into a Democrat.

8. She reminds me of the description of Lord Kitchener . . .
Interminable periods of complete darkness, followed by brief flashes of blinding light.

2. She usually distances herself from obvious controversy
Later in that episode when Joy asked Michael J Fox in regard to his opinions on Limbaugh, Hasselbeck chimed calling Rush's remarks uncalled for.

4. Is English not her first language?
It's good that she criticised him, but that's some really fractured English.

Sometimes when you can see how hateful someone is when it comes to racist/homophobic comments - it makes you take a step and think "Whoa I don't want to be like him"

I would be the last person to say she's on our team but perhaps this is a good step in moving Ms. Hasselbeck in the right direction.

I wasn't always supportive of Gay Rights. I grew up in a very redneck part of Pennsylvania where people were very outspoken against gays & lesbians (not porno-movie lesbians - rednecks seem ok with that - go figure). I thought I was progressive because I thought that minorities were equal but I stood with them when it came to the ideology of it's "Adam & Eve not Adam & Steve" bullshit. (mind you, this was the 80s). But when I was in college I was away from those narrow-minded people. I met gays & lesbians at college and worked with a couple of really great guys. Thing is - I started to realize that perhaps my thinking was wrong. These weren't the 'freaks of nature' that I was told by others back when I was younger. Many Many years later I realize I was extremely wrong back then.

Thing is - people can change. SOmetimes it just takes a bit of nudging to realize perhaps you're wrong.

19. People at Hasselbeck's pay grade don't tend to change.
They may bend in the prevailing winds, though, particularly if that pays even better.

I guess we should be grateful for whatever is currently driving her to disengage from slurs.

22. Media Matter's David Brock was part of the Clinton Slime Machine...
He was the one that 'broke' the story about 'Troopergate' (since been refuted) and first coined the term 'A Little Bit Nutty, A Little Bit Slutty" for Anita Hill.

If he can change anyone can. Just read his "Blinded by the Right" book

I would never argue, though, that the rich can never change. It's just that threading needles with camels is usually easier.

26. I grew up in a homophobic area
and this was not some redneck town either. In fact it's a suburban New York town a mile away from the Clinton's NY home. But people in my school were behind the time, and at any moment, would use the term "gay" as an insult to whoever they wanted to. It wasn't until my 20s when I realized there was nothing wrong with being gay when I started to work with a few gays, and my cousin came out.
This was the late 90s

Does it somehow diminish us to somehow admit that a Republican did or said something that is good?
