i am amazed that DU still doesn't have a Health Care Reform issues forum.
The admin told me back in December that they would set one up since we followed protocol and there is wide and deep interest in the issue.

I'm hoping Grovel Bot will put it's talent to work on that.

I think DU Is really missing the boat on this. My 2 cents

Please recommend if you agree.

1. Me too -- unbelievable that there is no forum for this MAJOR issue on DU.

2. Well, there is the Health forum
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=222

And it is being used for reform issues. But the subject is so topical now that GD, GD-P, LBN and Editorials are covering it fairly well.

4. It is also being used to discuss people's belly aches and runny noses...

...issues with health itself. Not the same as the lack of healthCARE which is a major political issue.

7. Yeah, I can see that
I see below that EarlG has promised to look into it.

Maybe it could be a place for research, background and advocacy groups.

3. I must have missed this
I apologize if you were told that a Group would be set up and nothing happened. Sometimes these things get lost in the shuffle. I'll talk to Skinner about it tomorrow.

6. There isn't one for EFCA. Why is HC so special?
Seems there's a dozen issues on the table right now that would warrant it's own forum, if that's what is planned. Anything less would be favoritism.

9. The two issues have a large constituency in common. "Zero sum" thinking is obsolete. nt

11. That's true, so why isolate them?
I don't see unions or even universal healthcare as distinct issues, but two of many good things that should be passed, so I don't know whether you were agreeing with me or misread what I said.

14. There is a Labor issues forum. I like it, because i can find all the Labor related articles and
discussion in one easily accessed archive.

It doesn't isolate anything. It allows people to organize, strategize , and find info for all sorts of good uses.

Have you checked out the issues forum? They are really neat. Check out Election Reform, for instance. A great forum and a dedicated crew who have moved mountains.

There is a protocol for creating an issues forum. You can find it in the DU rules.

19. Yes I have.
The GLBT forum is very active, as is the health forum. Photography Group is also hopping.

The labor forum... practically dead. hardly anybody goes in there. 3/4ths of the threads on the first page have the OP only. It's about as active as the Science Fiction group and the Colorado Forum.

My big issue is the corporate stranglehold over the government, and as such, the people of the nation. Healthcare and union membership are but 2 arrows we can use to break that hold. Two big ones that matter too much to be relegated to an unused forum, or one that focuses too much on holistic remedies.

I see Healthcare knocking down the corporatist's shield, while EFCA makes him drop his sword. The rest of his armor will chink away with forclosure relief, CC reform, shoring up SS, affordable education, the list goes on.

All of our country's problems can be sourced at the root, and that root is unbridled corporate power. To get anything, especially universal healthcare, that corporate power has to be broken. It's one big picture. All of these issues will struggle if they're parsed out and segmented as if they were separate issues.

22. I don't think of it as isolation. More like focus and that CAN include any connections
between the two anyone is capable of making.

8. Such a group would attract many new Users to DU. When people out in my
community want to go into more detail than I want to handle on the issue of Healthcare Reform, I tell them to go to the internet and they will be able to find people capable of discussing the issue in great detail. It would be nice to be able to tell them to go to the Democratic Underground on the internet and look for the Healthcare Reform discussion group.

Please do this mod/gods and Skinner and whoever it takes to make it so!

as long as I don't have to see them floating to the top of GD and GD-P like reanimated zombies.

as one of the really major issues of our time.

18. I'd rather not see a Single Payer 'dungeon'
I was initially for a separate forum, but the more I think about it I'd rather the discussion stay in GD.

Look at the Labor Forum. Excellent information there, but hardly any discussion.

20. We need both, the forum where the excellent information can be
documented, and the GD discussions to bring people to awareness of the subject. Too much in GD sinks and disappears and then needs to be repeated. A forum would keep the information available in one place.
