Suspected Nazi Death Camp Guard Demjanjuk Deported to Germany May 12 (Bloomberg) -- Suspected Nazi death camp guard John Demjanjuk was put on a flight to Germany from Ohio after losing an appeal to the Supreme Court to block his deportation from the U.S. last week.
Demjanjuk, an 89-year-old retired autoworker who lived outside Cleveland, departed on a flight at about 7 p.m. yesterday from Burke Lakefront Airport, Jacqueline Mayo, a spokeswoman for the airport, said in a telephone interview.
A Munich court arrest warrant alleges Demjanjuk assisted in the murder of 29,000 Jews during World War II when he was a guard at the Sobibor concentration camp in Nazi-occupied Poland. Demjanjuk, a native of Ukraine, has denied working for the Nazis.
Demjanjuk was removed from his home in a wheelchair last month by U.S. immigration officials before a federal appeals court halted his deportation. The court two weeks later cleared the way for Demjanjuk to be sent to Germany for possible trial.
