Just witnessed a shoot-out one block west of our house.
Well, it was kind of one sided, four white cops with shotguns firing away at the darkness before loosing a K9 on whomever they were after.
They took down one guy in the street after tasing him. We heard another guy screaming a minute later, we thought maybe the dog or a bullet found him but we never saw them take him in. One cop ran back and said they needed paramedics but none were ever summoned.

Lots of empty houses in this area, rent's cheap if anyone's interested. :)

2. That is scary
I live near a bank that gets robbed it seems once every few months. Once I had the cops chase a guy across my back yard that had robbed it. I get nervous when the helicopters are hovering over my area at night. I would probably be a basket case if people were being shot at near my house.

10. hell yeah some weird stuff goes on in this world
We've had a few incidents around my apartment complex over the years. I don't walk too far alone at night anymore, I used to though. Had a drive by shooting a few years ago about a block away that killed a guy. A couple beatings, one in laundromat down the street, seriously hurt the manager. I've had a few sketchy people knock on my door before, lol. I always go outside and check out a ruckus, usually it's a few drunks outside arguing, nothing too big.

At any rate, be careful. It's fun to go take a look but don't get too daring, that stuff is risky.

I've lived in the same complex for 7 years, it's gotten progressively worse in the neighborhood. More violence etc. I just don't like to walk alone all that much anymore. In the day it's not that bad, but at night, I just prefer not to go too far. Just the store across the street is about it.

People are being beaten up and/or shot in their houses because they made the unfortunate mistake of being home when someone came to rob their house.
I'm alone several nights a week and I'm not going to become a victim.

I believe people should do what makes them feel safe, just so long as they are responsible about it. I'm originally from Montana, everybody and their mother has about 10 guns each. I've seen them used responsibly and not so responsibly, but they certainly can be an asset.

34. I went outside because of the noise.
When I saw the guy break in, I went back to call 911, but I had to find the street address, by that time, three other neighbors had shown up and 911 had been called, so I peeked out the window as the naked guy ran around screaming in the phone at the 911 operator. All in all, it was about a 7 on the drama scale, full frontal nudity, violence, foul language...NC-17 all the way!

36. What, no video?
It's funny, there is a stupid mockingbird who sings all goddamn night outside our window, he didn't get lucky so he lives the bachelor life, LOUDLY, starting every night at 11. He sang the whole time the cops were out there, it was bizarre. Right after the explosion was the only time I've ever heard him shut up.

The first shut him up for at least 15 minutes, this last time he recovered in about 5.

22. Used to be a medic so for me training takes over
funny story... we live near sea world, first fireworks of the season go OFF... and LOUD

both me and hubby go down, me to the deck... him looking for the non-existent gun. Once we realized we started laughing

Now the real funny one, went to ren fair with sister and brother in law... they were cops at the time. Cannon goes off, I hit the deck, hubby hits cover, and these two go down for cover and reach for guns. Then reach for badge for obvious reason... and we all had a good laugh, even the gal tending the selling post. medic, navy, cop, cop, she actually found it hysterically funny. Me... it took about five minutes for my heart rate to go back to normal and my sense of smell back to normal. Ah adrenalin.. does weird shit. These days I just avoid the fourth of july fireworks

30. I had a friend from N. Ireland.
He did the same thing, hit the deck when ever there was a loud explosion. He was dating one of my good friends and she was a roughneck Southern woman (love her to death). They were walking in downtown Columbia, SC and a car backfired. He flung her to the ground and jumped on top of her. She of course was pissed until she turned around and saw he was white as a ghost and trembling. They got married.

We're at 5500 feet, so it stays cooler a bit longer here.

No tornadoes, no snakes, no hurricanes. Just the vague threat of earthquakes and some big snowfalls during about five months of the year.

The cops in this town are crooked and racist as hell, when they start shooting at shadows in the night, I want to be a witness, not someone who closes the door and turns out the light. I hope I don't ever have to regret following my camera lens.

They picked up their casings before they left, is that weird?

If they thought they were acting within their legal boundaries, they wouldn't be clearing up the scene without a forensics unit on site.

47. I second that.
They're doing two things wrong there: disturbing forensics that would be needed for an internal investigation of the shooting, and covering up the fact that they were there in the first place. That STRONGLY suggests that they were acting illegally.

Street are deserted, houses shut up tight. They've got the sheriff and deputies patrolling out here now too.

Called our friend in the bottoms two streets south, he hasn't seen any cops in his neighborhood. After the first explosion, he went out to drag his 18 year old sister into the house, she was out in the park with her friends, there were kids all over the place then.

To emphasize, the cops were shooting into the dark at someone they could not identify, this is in the middle of a city, in people's back yards.

Is that relevant to the story or do you have some ax to grind?

BTW... shotguns don't fire "bullets"; they use shells which can contain pellets, a slug or in this situation (as you describe it), possibly less than lethal loadings.
