there is an old sundries store in Huntsville, AL, that was operated by its original owner for decades, and preserved by the historical society after he died. On the top of one very high cabinet towards the back, where the pharmacy was located, was an enormous jar labeled "cocaine" which, at least once when I saw it (decades ago), was full of a white solid. Yes, coke was once legal (and used to formulate Coca-Cola) just as marijuana was, and frequently prescribed by pharmacists -- hence the need to keep a huge jar on hand.
