Just now on Hardball
a representative of the Family Research Council asserted that social scientists have proved that children do best when raised by their 'natural' parents in a loving and commited relationship. "Hmmmm," sez me, "Ain't these the same folks who dis science of any kind when it comes to everything else?" Ah well, shouldn't be surprised. It's what we've come to expect from the church of ThisiswhatIbelievesoyouhavetobelieveittoowhetheryouwanttoornot.

I'm one of those heathen backsliders who has chosen to belong to no organized religion. It's very freeing not to have to answer for - or to - such boofuses.

1. What is their definition of 'do best'?
I tend to think it is becoming a fucking religiobot with no soul and no mind of one's own. I was a single parent, and I raised a damn good kid. She is barely 21 and a far better person than I could ever hope to be. I found out on Mother's Day that she's supporting a little girl who lives in Mexico. She's 21, socially conscious, and a wonderful human being already. I don't even want to think about what I was like at her age. I was barely past being an amoeba.

6. Kudos to you. I also raised 2 as a single parent...they are bright, kind, and capable.
They were raised with basic knowledge of organized religion, but, like myself, have chosen to simply live peacefully & believe in their own sense of right & wrong & know the meaning of 'free will'.

The truth to all of this is well stated in my tagline.

Thanks
Blaze Diem

3. When they succeed in making all natural parents
part of loving, committed relationships maybe they'll have a point.

However, in a world full of screwballs, men who take off, women who take drugs, and all the other family pathologies, I'd rather see kids adopted by healthy gay and lesbian couples than stay with natural parents who are slowly killing them.

8. Exactly!
My adopted daughter is still recovering from what happened to her after being born to married heterosexual parents. She is grateful she was raised by this "non-natural" adoptive but still real, single mom.

5. I actually yelled at the guy
..when he started with the argument about marriage being for having and raising children... I have had enough of that foolish argument!!! So, no legal marriage unless 2 people are biologically able and are committed to having children and no legal marriage for those of us past childbearing age... their nonsense is unbearable

7. my husband and i were together for 10 years before we were married.
we lived together and had a daughter. we had one on the way when we got married. this is bullshit. marriage is a piece of paper. loving relationships come in all shapes and sizes. there are single parents who raise their children better than some married two parent homes do. i would rather have a child in a loving home with one parent or gay parents or a grandparent.... as long as that child gets love. it's not always possible with 'natural parents'. my mom died when i was 12. my dad had a hard time after that and us kids got the joy of fending for ourselves. but i guess that's better than if we were living with a gay couple, huh. we ended up living with my sister. again, families come in all shapes and sizes. the world is not ozzie and harriet and leave it to friggin beaver. the argument this jerk makes is ridiculous and not practical.

9. Exactly. I'm so sick of hearing their over bloated, self-serving, hypocritical mantra.

Sorry state of the world when they are given so much air time for their sinful hypocrisy and incitement of hate.
