While this is perfectly framed for maximum political advantage, I really can't enjoy John Arivosis's word craft here. He's so damn right it hurts. I really believe it's important for Congressmen to go to Baghdad and look at the hell they've unleashed. And obviously you don't want the purveyors of the chaos, the crazed insurgents who choose to kill random civilians rather than fight other armed forces, to get a pot shot at an American VIP. I even understand from military vets who post here on DU that SOP for detail like this isn't taken off the front line (well, maybe the 2 Apaches and 3 Blackhawks were). Instead, those 100 troops who escorted McCain and Graham and entourages were most likely pulled off their down time to let them pull down their photo op.

But that's just all logic talking. In my gut I'm only aware that, as Aravosis puts it...
"http://americablog.blogspot.com/2007/04/6-us-soldiers-die-near-baghdad-as-john.html">6 US soldiers die near Baghdad as John McCain goes shopping."

Too bad those now-dead six American service members didn't have 100 troops, 3 Blackhawk helicopters, and 2 Apache gunships backing THEM up
Some days, it's just too damn much is all. Some days crying for my country feels like as empty a gesture as those putting yellow ribbon decals on their SUVs.
