Finally---jet packs available to the general public!
When I was a kid in the 60's I was sure we'd all have these. The day has finally arrived!

snip

The world's first commercially-available rocket pack is now on the market - for £130,000.

Inventor Juan Manuel Lozano says the hydrogen-peroxide powered backpacks, known as Rocket Belts, can propel the wearer to speeds of up to 60mph.

He claims the custom-made 800 horse-powered rockets will launch adrenaline junkies weighing up to 21st as high as 300ft.

The original was used by Sean Connery as James Bond in Thunderball and was also flown in the opening ceremony of the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

You can weigh up to 300 lbs! Only $250k USD. From the manufacturer's site:

Rocket Belt

TAM is the only company in the world that produces a complete turn-key package of a flying rocket belt, custom-made to the pilot’s weight and body size. (up to 300 lbs. / 136 Kg). We use the most advanced technology and aerospace materials , including:

1. A fully-tested, custom-made flying rocket belt,
2. This belt has been proved to be the most stable design and easier to fly
3. A special machine to make our own unlimited supply of rocket fuel
4. Hands-on training in the process and the equipment
5. Flight training of 10 flights in your own rocket belt
6. Maintenance and setup training
7. 24/7 expert support
8. Housing and food are included during training

The total price for all this is only $250,000 usd.

If you’re interested in recourping your investement, you can make a lot of money flying this machine in special events, promotions, advertising, elections campaigns, concerts, movies, TV commercials etc.

This is the kind of flying machine that millions of people saw in the James Bond 007 movies and at the opening ceremony of the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984. Until now, there has been only one company doing this, and they charge at least $20,000 per flight!

For many years only one rocket belt was flying in all the world but in 2005 TAM ended the monopoly of more than 20 years.

This machine cold be a gold mine in the right hands!!.

* Important:

Be aware of people that offer plans, parts or a rocket belt that has not flown and tested because you will be killed.
The Rocket Belt is NOT a machine that you can make and fly easily, if someone offers to you plans or parts to make a "cheap" Rocket Belt ask for a demonstration and see an actual flight, don't be the test pilot of a deadly machine.

1. A new weapon for terrorists!
I can envision hundreds, perhaps thousands, of suicide equipped rocket-belters hurling themselves into buildings across the U.S. TERROR! TERROR! :nuke:

Who could have ever envisioned an attack like this happening? ME, that's who! ;)

9. I foresee many, many ugly accidents and deaths
Edited on Tue Apr-03-07 08:42 AM by MadHound
Sorry, but there's a reason that these things haven't been commercially available, they're damn death traps. The US armed forces mucked around with these for awhile, and killed or injured quite a few people before they hung them up. Now you get to pay $130,000 for premature death. No thanks, I'll stick to something safe, like Russian Roulette.

16. Not quite.
Most likely a much much much stronger version of hydrogen peroxide like the Navy use to use in torpedos. It's extremely dangerous and hard to handle.

14. Why can't they invent a scooter/car that just HOVERS at high speed?
Edited on Tue Apr-03-07 09:37 AM by HughBeaumont
No one is asking for or wants damned Jetsons-like gadgets like this. Right, that would suck if you lost propulsion at 300 feet. You ain't surviving THAT fall. All we want is a hovering scooter that goes about 20-30 mph and cars that can go a safe speed just above ground. Flying cars like the Moller Sky Car sound great, but do you REALLY want to be 300 feet in the air by yourself and run the risk of crashing, Doc Brown?
