I haven't checked in with GYWO in a while, and this was SUCH a nice break here at my rePuke place of business.

2. The best line:
"Does the fact that I kind of miss John Ashcroft mean my brain can be tried for war crimes?"

5. Ahh... the good old Ashcroft days
I miss the guy, I admit. I watch the "Let the Eagle Soar" video clip every now and then and I always get this urge to thrust out my right arm, click my heels (tough in flip-flops) and belt out a chorus of "Deutsch land, Deutschland Uber Alles. But it's just not the same as having those beady black bird-eyes burning holes right through the TV screen and directly into my subversive brain. It was like John actually cared in his demented kind of way. That squeaky-voiced geek who replaced him just doesn't have John's presence, his twitches, his old-time religion, his resonant baritone, his... his CHARISMA.

Yup, those were great times. When he interrupted normal programming for a special heart-to-heart with the american people, telling us the threat level had gone to orange, I must admit to a thrill of anticipation as I imagined the full resources of the american security state marshalled to protect me -- me who didn't even vote republican -- but they didn't hold that against me. They just wanted to nail the crooks and murderers, let the chips fall where they may. Though I must admit I was secretly very relieved I wasn't one of those disposable brown people they were always showing being rounded up and sent to some hellhole in the american gulag. But protecting the homeland was always more important than human rights, and John was way out front on that issue.

So let the eagle soar, and don't mind that giant gob of bird shit on your shoulder. Instead, treasure it, for you've been touched by the sacred feces of the mighty symbol of this great land. After all, it's not everyone who gets shit on by his own country, metaphorically or otherwise.
