Why I won't stay in a Wyndham hotel.
Wyndham Rewards
1910 8th Avenue NE
Aberdeen SD 57401

To Whomever:

Enclosed please find, unopened, an unsolicited mailing from your company.

I have already informed your company that I will never again stay in any of your hotels because of your Ellicotville, NY’s hotel’s policy of forcing attendees in the breakfast room to watch The 700 Club. The managers of this hotel forcing those who choose to avail themselves of the “free” breakfast to sit through right wing religious propaganda and proselytization is, in my opinion, unforgiveable.

The refusal of either the franchisee in question, or the home company, to explain, end, or even apologize for this policy ensures that I will never allow your company to collect one more dollar from me, and will actively encourage my friends to also avoid your company.

Any further unsolicited mailings from your company may now be construed as harassment, and I will not hesitate to act accordingly should any be received.

For those who are curious, Wyndham own or run Ramada, Days Inn, Super 8, Wingate, Baymont, Microtel, Hawthorn, Howard Johnson, Travelodge, and Knights Inn.

1. That sounds like a problem with an individual manager, not the company.
We use the Wyndham in downtown Phoenix for all our Dem events because it's the only fully unionized hotel in the city. They've been great supporters and I've never seen the 700 Club on any TV there.

2. If the company won't stop a renegade manager or franchisee
then they're to blame for it. I've been waiting for an explanation or apology for four months, and have only gotten signed up against my will for their "rewards" program.

8. Sorry but I'm not holding the Wyndham in Phx responsible for what the manager of one in NY does. nt

3. Did you ask to change the channel or try to do it yourself?
One of the other guests may have put it on. Or, the management could have been unaware.

I often find that hotel TVs go directly to Fox when you turn them on.

If I can do it at all, I use the hotel room remote to set parental controls -- with a password -- on Fox. Just a little guerrilla programming.

As a last resort -- take your "free breakfast" to go and eat it in your room.

9. I asked.
The manager informed me that they were not allowed to change the channel.

10. Did you ask why?
He's the manager, for crying out loud.

Doesn't say much for the organizational structure if corporate HQ doesn't trust its field managers with something like TV remotes...I'm guessing the manager is a fundie and he was just fine with the choice of channel that day.

14. Probably just his way of saying
"I don't want to."

He probably gets points from his right-wing Christian church for forcing people to watch the 700 club. It's his way of "witnessing." They get brownie points for that.

5. Hmm.
Why not just walk up and change the channel?

I have stayed at Wingate Inn properties a few times and have been pleased with them.

6. All I do is get up and change the channel
I've never had a problem with that. If the tube is out of reach the guy running the omelete bar has the remote and quite often I've seen people ask to change it and it's changed.

7. Being forced to watch the 700 Club would make me put a shotgun in my mouth.
That shit is painful to watch.

11. I've never had that problem
Most frequently the TV is on CNN, in my experience. If it were on the 700 Club, I would either change the channel myself or ask to have it changed.

If they refused, I'd take the food to my room, and probably never stay at that location again. I don't think I'd boycott the entire chain, though.

12. They had Fox News on at the Social Security Office here last week. So I quit paying federal taxes.
Power to the people!

13. Best way to have the manager turn it off:
Heckle it. Describe the propaganda techniques Pat Robertson & crew use in realtime. Make him look foolish for having it on.

Of course, I also understand not being in the mood for that at breakfast.

My Doctor plays Fox News in her waiting room.... America is sleepwalking into the future.

Fuck them all when the SHTF this August. I'll spit on fundies and step over their bodies. Idiots...
