Anybody Like Green Day?
IMO one of the best anti shrub bands going. Green Day and Ministry tend to be two of my favorite anti-puke bands.

American Idiot was fantastic and now they have 21st Century Breakdown out and it may even be better, I'll have to give it a few more listens.

In any case. Amazon.com is offering it for download for $4.99 today. It's missing one of the iTunes songs and the booklet but at $14.99 at iTunes I'll pass on the booklet. You can get the real CD from Amazon for $10.00.

"American Idiot" is one of the all-time great albums of the Rock Era, IMHO. I hope their new stuff measures up.

6. That's one of the few bands that both my kids and I like.
My son got into them circa "American Idiot" and he was impressed when I said: "Hey, we've got a Green Day CD from the 90s" (Dookie).

15. No.
In my opinion Green Day is about as edgy and exciting as the Monkees. Given my druthers on the matter... I'll take the Monkees.

Wow, it just occurred to me how much I must dislike Green Day, to actually go to the effort to talk smack about them... who knew?

Ministry's ok though.

26. Ministry is just OK?
OK, that's it?

Man I must be old but I remember Ministry when it was so new and edgy that people protested their shows. I really used to love this industrial style of music in the 90's. When Houses of the Mole came out I really felt like they'd been reborn, that album brought me right back to the good stuff.

28. Hmm, on second thought, I'll grant your point... they do rock.
I haven't thought too much about industrial for years. Ministry and Skinny Puppy were the best of the industrial bands that I can think of.
NIN and their ilk were always sort of second rate in comparison.

17. Love Green Day...thought "Wake Me Up When September Ends" could affect
the outcome of the 2004 election, helping to inspire young people to vote Bush out. The song and video were amazing.

Unfortunately, the song didn't have as much of an impact as I had hoped...

19. Haven't listened for a long while
When I was younger, I was first exposed with Dookie. Liked that album, next thing I remember is single songs - Brain Stew, then American Idiot and Time of your Life. They've really grown a lot. My tastes have changed, so I don't think I'd go wild over their new album but I bet it's solid.

Their performance attire is ridiculous. They make N*Sync look like as sensible and age-appropriate as the Andrews Sisters

29. Love Green Day and Ministry's "Jesus Built My Hotrod" is a classic fav in this household.
Back before kids I was more into music but my husband still is. I'm proud to say that my kids (5th & 7th graders) have excellent taste (Foo fighters, Green Day, Sonic Youth, Kanye) and complain about the cheesy music their friends are into.

My husband always buys new music the day it comes out and since he was out of town-I picked up the new G D. I listened to the 1st 2 tracks on the way home but my son took it downstairs after I came home.

What I miss is the local CD stores. We lost almost every one where I live. We hung out with a group of people all centered on our friend's CD store. We were all snobs like in the movie High Fidelity. I have pleasant memories of "Jesus built My Hotrod" barely not blowing out our speakers at ~3am with the doors and windows wide open. Those were some fun times.

:hi:

38. I used to like them, now I love them
Always enjoyed their music, but recently I saw a concert of theirs on TV and man, they served it the fuck UP! They gave a show, a performance, delivered the liver, along with the heart. They were very kind to and caring of their audience. I was impressed with their musicality live, but even more by the love and energy in their performances. They felt things, and it showed. They love their music. I love that.

39. I was going to buy it based on this RS interview:
If you don't like Green Day, the article is at the very least a fun read. They make Green Day sound like the second coming of the holy trinity, with Billy Joe Armstrong as a gold-plated Jesus.

Snip
Since Green Day were the Nineties punk brats nobody expected to grow up, everything they do comes as a surprise. What's more bizarre: the fact that they sound so ambitious and audacious on their eighth album, or the fact that they even made an eighth album? Either way, the losercore mutts who crashed the radio in 1994 chanting "I got no motivation," with Billie Joe Armstrong wasted on his mom's couch — they've ended up the last band standing, the ones living up to their era's loftiest ideals and still writing their toughest songs long after they should have landed on Sober House. And they did it with a goddamned rock opera.

American Idiot seemed like their career kamikaze — a concept album about American hopes and dreams, with characters named St. Jimmy and Jesus of Suburbia? Nice try! But it not only rescued Green Day from midlife limbo, it charged their musical batteries. With nearly 6 million copies sold and counting, Idiot became the sort of multiplatinum rock blockbuster that isn't supposed to exist anymore, because Green Day blew up into the sort of band that isn't supposed to exist anymore — raging with heart-on-sleeve passion, willing to risk falling on their faces with a grand statement. Even the songs that didn't work or the plot threads that didn't make sense just increased the fun, because Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool were refusing to go down slow.

would have sounded like. That was the album that was stolen from the recording studio in the final stages of recording. They started over again and recorded American Idiot instead.
