Speaker of the House Pelosi-the following members of Democratic Underground support the creation of
an independent investigation of war crimes authorized by the George Walker Bush administration.

This would be consistent with The Executive Branch Accountability Act of 2008.

If clear evidence of authorization of war crimes were discovered indictments and prosecution should follow.

11. Sounds good to me. I don't care who fires up the inquiry, I think the inquiry needs to begin.
Call everyone listed in the Senate Report on Detainee Abuse to testify. Use the report as a model to start the questioning, and let's see where that takes us. Make sure you schedule Rumsfeld so he'll be fresh from his nap--we want him sharp when he has his say.

http://armed-services.senate.gov/Publications/Detainee%20Report%20Final_April%2022%202009.pdf

Here's that report--it's a doozy! Two hundred and sixty nine pages of pure INDICTABLE material.

20. Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Reid, and Attorney General Holder could start a Special Prosecutor
If we could get just one Special Prosecutor to investigate the Bush Administration, it would open the flood gates for many more Special Prosecutors.

Please, oh please Democratic Leadership, give us this Special Prosecutor and a torture of prisoners investigation. We need it. The whole country needs it badly.

28. Agreed
A nation of laws must abide by the rule of laws. If there is evidence that laws may have been broken it does not matter who the accused is, they must be investigated and if evidence exists, charged, and tried, and if convicted they must accept justice in accordance with the laws of this nation. We are not a dictatorship where the leader and their cronies can operate with no regard for the laws. We are not a monarchy where the head of state is deemed above the laws. We are a representatice democracy where laws are written as social contract between all citizens from the most affluent, to those merely subsisting. Every citizen is supposed to have equal value and responsibility to the laws. If we continue to allow a certain segment of our population to operate in a separate system than the average citizen, then we are not that nation of laws and honor that we brag about.

We need and demand these investigations and if they implicate and convict any or all of our leaders, then we need new leaders that will remember that they are elected to serve us and represent us.

37. Prosecute Porter Goss for lying to Congress too! "We don't torture" 2005
Edited on Sun May-17-09 02:22 PM by L. Coyote
When the Rs LIE, they forget what they testified to before Congress!
You can't have it both ways.

If Pelosi lied to us, Goss is liable for lying to Congress, a felony.
The IDIOTS don't even know how to LIE right!

REC this: Will Porter Goss be prosecuted for lying to Congress?
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x5671623

"We don't torture"

On March 18, 2005, Reuters reported that Porter Goss "defended his spy agency's current interrogation practices but could not say all methods used as recently as last December conformed to U.S. law.

"U.S. officials do not view torture as a method for gaining vital intelligence, Goss said. But he acknowledged some CIA operatives may have been uncertain about approved interrogation techniques in the past."

Goss told the Senate Armed Services Committee "'The United States does not engage in or condone torture, ... I know for a fact that torture is not productive. That's not professional interrogation. We don't torture.'"

40. Reply to Speaker of the House Pelosi
Edited on Sun May-17-09 06:30 PM by rschop
Pelosi has hosted herself on a petard of her own making. She and the rest of the US Congress had known that the CIA had lied to Congress for years, and let them get away with it with no retribution. The most obvious example of this are the attacks on 9/11. It is now clear from the record that the CIA knew about Mihdhar and Hazmi 21 months before September 11, 2001, but never gave this information to the FBI until August 23, 2001, when it was too late to find them. The congress even knew that at that point when this information was sent over to the FBI, that the CIA had then forced the shutdown of FBI investigations that could have found Mihdhar and Hazmi in time to prevent the attacks on 9/11, in effect intentionally allowing the attacks on 9/11 to take place that killed almost 3000 people. She and Congress then knew that the CIA then lied about this to hide their culpability in the attacks on 9/11, a fact that must have been an open secret in Washington DC for years. So now when the CIA has lied yet once again, she is stuck with the monster she and the test of the US Congress has created!

42. I don't trust Congress to hold a REAL investigation.
Too many Congress Critters have skin in this game.
Anything Congress does at this point will be a circus of diversion.

Besides, Congress can NOT prosecute.
ALL Congress can do (besides posturing for the cameras) is to determine whether crimes have been committed and then refer them to the AG.
There is already NO DOUBT that serious crimes have been committed.

I STAND with the ACLU in demanding the White House (AG Holder) quit delaying, and appoint an Independent Prosecutor immediately.
The ACLU has pointed out that the Statute of Limitations on some of the most serious offenses will expire this year. It is time to pull the Torturers into Federal Court NOW.

I will support a Congressional "Truth and Reconciliation Commission" only AFTER the Justice Department does its JOB.

It is essential that we repudiate the lawless behavior of the
Bush bunch. This isn't about partisanship. Either we are
governed by laws that apply to everyone or we will continue
our descent into a culture of crime. What we do or fail to do
now sets a precedent for the future.

116. NON PARTISAN COMMISSION
Edited on Mon May-18-09 07:45 AM by 90-percent
Because BIPARTISAN means it will be made of of the RULING ELITE, be it Democratic or Republican, and I think the two parties cover their asses and each other at this level.

No more tepid, compromising, we don't want to get anybody in trouble, 9-11 Commissions. This Commission agreed to testimony from Bush and Cheney TOGETHER AND NOT UNDER OATH. We now know it's challenging to get any truth out of Bush and Cheney even if they are indeed under Oath. I'll happily accept their imprisonment for merely lying under oath. Additional prosecution for murder and treason would just be icing on the cake. Hell, go the Capone route and imprison them for tax evasion!

More cover ups will produce more unconstitutional administrations!

These are not innocent mistakes. These are evil people who thought they had a license to kill and play God and defy all American and International Laws and Treaties. Prosecutions are the only way to hold these monsters to account for their treasons. Prosecutions will be the result of a Commission with no other agenda than to get at all the facts in these crimes! With Subpoena power besides!

-90% Jimmy
