Here's a fun way to get back at robofaxers |
|
Open the top of your copier and make one copy. It will produce a sheet of black paper.
Next time you get a robo fax and there is a return fax number, fax them the black sheet of paper.
Over and over and over.
If they just print their faxes to PDF, then this does no good. if they print to paper, its a gas.

4. Are you suggesting that it's legal for them to send you whatever they want? |
|
But it's illegal for you to send something back to them?

If the goal is to reduce waste, you would actually be causing them to waste paper and ink or toner.
There must be a better way.

The goal is to get them to stop annoying me. So I annoy them back.
When I get live people on the phone, I engage them in completely inane conversions.
Or I get creepy (What are you wearing? Can we meet someplace? I'm out on parole and soooooooo lonely. Is your package a big one?)

there is no way to pull something like that on these fax marketers. I'm so tired of blowing through all my toner on these jerks.

38. Well, you could always come up with a "faded" copy of fake lawsuit papers |
|
....you'd have to find a good legal document to copy, so your goof looks real, and fiddle with it so that huge chunks are missing, like all the parts that have the names....but there's enough there for the receiver to realize that they are being sued, or divorced, or something.
The only thing worse than a "too dark" fax is a too light one!

Most of the time it's foreclosure vultures asking to "buy my house," even though I'm obviously not in foreclosure -- they just make random cold calls to every phone number in the neighborhood.
I go on and on about how "I willing sell horse, cow, sheep, dog and wife number three back home in Kazakstan."
It's amazing how long I can get them to continue with this -- exchanging offers of "house" and "horse" -- about 5 minutes, on average.

Many of the all-in-one printers have FAX capability and I've used mine within the last month for exactly the purpose of returning a signed document.

18. That doesn't have the same legal status as a FAX. |
|
I know, I know - they are both image file formats. The best justification I've heard is that there is verifiable third party record (phone bill) that coincides with the time stamp on the FAX printout (generated on the receiving end). Yes, that depends on the clock being set correctly.
Still, a FAX is a legal document, same as original signature unless it needs to be notarized. An image file is simply not, even if it is sent by e-mail. That's been a long-standing rule.

I believe they have a fax machine. They'll even accept incoming faxes if I want. I can't remember needing to do that, though...ever.

the only mention of kinko's is to say: "fedex kinko's is now fedex office".
in a few months time, only kinko the clown will carry on the name.

16. Me and every one of my clients. |
|
Yes, their use is becoming increasingly rare. We haven't had a stand-alone fax in years, though. What we have now is a network copier/printer/scanner/fax. Our usual is to scan a document and e-mail it, but sometimes ya can't. Also, we can now fax in color and as tabloid size (11x17) sheets. Nowadays, the fax is sort a free add-on when you get a business class copier.
And how cool is this? I can send a print job from my machine here to any of my other offices and have it print out there. Not a fax, actually. A sort of internet print thing.

More of them than regular faxes. But since they just print to a queue in one of the computers, its no real bother.
When I had a bond paper all-in-one inkjet, it used to really piss me off.
But now, when I have a light day, I fax 'em back the black sheets.

Don't you know? You use multiple sheets of blackout paper, and tape them so that they feed in a loop. Then, when you do get an answer at Robofax HQ, their printer will burn toner and paper 'til it quits. Good times.
