An inconvenient truth for us
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=On8P--pPKy4

I remember 2006. And the hope we had. I remember Andy (he is in the Video, for those here that are new and don't remember him do a search on Andy Stephenson). I remember us fighting here tooth and nail for this.

Watch the above video and tell me what has changed in your view on things.

Do we just not care anymore? Or have we simply made excuses for those in power because they carry a letter after their name we can associate with?

It is not about politics between parties, it is about a principle we held then and damn well need to now.

Watch it, and tell me you feel different now than then.

I now have two sons heading off to these wars soon, and I don't feel any different now than I did at that time. I still remember the orange revolution. The hatred of these wars. The threads which talked about our troops whom had died.

Do you?

This is not about party, it is about principle.

I remember those days of having a deep hope that bush would be gone. That we would get a dem in power - both in congress and the WH, and that we would end all this war stuff.

"I'm already there" are you?

5. Yeah, I am sure you said the same with bush too
Get back with me in a year and see if anything much has changed when it comes to these wars.

Not saying Obama is bad, etc, but I still remember back in the day when folks here were railing against bush for keeping these wars going.

I don't care who holds what office, either they are for or against these wars.

We are still there. And now we are sending more troops, including my kids.

This is not about me versus Obama, it is about my principles against the principles of others - and those others are in power right now. And those same others were in power before.

Are you someone who sees themselves as progressive? Do you want these wars to end? Do you want our troops to come home as soon as possible?

Yeah - Obama has only been president for 5 months. And what do we have? Send more troops to these wars. Is that what you wanted?

I got a grip. Do you? Would you send even more kids to fight in these wars? Or would you do all you could to get them out of harm's way?

7. Parties are part of the problem
People need to support and vote for the person who they feel best represents them and put party loyalty second.

The people of my district didn't vote Charlie Melancon into office because he was a Democrat. They voted him in because they knew that on issues that matter the most to people down here in this region, that he'd vote with their interests and ideology in mind. On virtually every issue he votes for, I can look and say "yes, even if I disagree with him, that's what the people of this area would want, not just the people who voted for him."

9. There are no parties right now. It is the sane and the cancer groups and that's it.
The Republicans are batshit and toxic forcing the Democrats to represent the entire legitimate political spectrum.

12. i can only pray for your sons. is it their first tour or are they going back?
do you take any comfort, do you feel any reassurance from the fact that Obama is still on track to reduce troops in Iraq down to 50,000 or maybe less? and i believe this far in Afghanistan, they plan to get US troops up to 70,000. so once most troops are out of Iraq, there will be far fewer US troops in active combat. i feel like i have to comfort you but i guess you can handle it. try not to worry too much if that's possible
