Here's the response I got from my Republican Congressman on HB 676.
This guy is an eye doctor.

"From the price of health insurance to the price of prescription medications to the price of medical services, our families should not have to choose between food or medical assistance. However, I also believe that the federal government is not set up to support a national health care system, nor is it able to provide free health care to all."

He then wrote me a personal note as he often does since I think I badger him more than anybody else in his district.

"Bxxxxxx, single payer isn't cheap! What is efficient coming out of Washington bureaucracy (sic)? Great Britan (sic) withholding tax is 11% for health per person and that is probably average. We need to do this right as we go about reform.

Thanks,
John (John Boozman of Arkansas)"

1. It's not cheap.........
well, sir, it's cheaper, proven and factual, than the private system that is currently in place and would cover all, not just the very poor, the very old and the disabled.......who are currently covered under that government system that you claim the government is not set up to run.

Shit, the talking points are so easy to refute I wonder why bother.

2. Great Britain doesn't do single payer. I notice he avoids mentioning Canada
that does do single payer, and is able to deliver quality health care, for half of what we pay for it.

3. 11% ? And that's bad?
Hell. That is what I am paying for my share of my health insurance now!
