Poll question: Will you boycott mandated "health care" insurance?
Edited on Tue May-26-09 08:09 AM by L. Coyote
Question inspired by this comment:

19. Universal Health Care? Don't you mean "Mandated Private, For-Profit, Claim-Denying Health Insurance"?

Discuss: For-profit Insurance in Universal Health Care is Absolutely Unacceptable.

1. I'd have no choice.
I can't afford mandatory, for-profit health insurance.

2. How do I boycott it?
If not single payer, then one has to get one's medical costs covered, so what are the choices?

Will my fellow boycotters pay my medical bills?

3. I would have to boycott it because I can't afford it.
It's that simple. So what kind of solution is that?

4. U: "So what kind of solution is that? " Whose solution is it?
It is a solution for insurance companies to make more money.
It's a solution for health providers collecting profits.
It's a solution for creative, regressive 3rd-party taxation.

It's NOT a solution for health care.

11. Absolutely.

You are correct. It just pisses me off that it's being put forward as some kind of solution to the health care crisis.

6. The only people who will be mandated to buy that shit
are those who do not have health benefits provided through their employment and those who do not otherwise have government funded access to some kind of health care (the elderly, the young, the poor, the disabled, government workers, elected officials, prisoners, Native Americans, etc.). And those who do not work for a small business that qualifies for state subsidized health insurance.

I'm betting those mandated to buy this crap are required to use fully taxable dollars to make the purchase too.

Nevermind that folks who can't afford to buy health insurance now are not going to magically be able to afford it just because it is mandated.

Americans are fucking stupid. That is the only explanation for why we keep electing health care funded politicians who offer these kinds of completely ignorant, out of touch, unrealistic solutions to our health care crisis. As far as I'm concerned any politician who does not support single payer can take their sorry selfish greedy a$$ home. Now. They are not part of the solution.

7. Other: I'm on Medicare
due to a lifelong disability. Thank God I have Medicare--and Tricare for Life because my dad retired from the Army and left me his insurance when he passed away 20 years ago.
The only insurance I don't have are dental and vision. I can't get my teeth worked on without visiting a military base and my bifocals cost me about $300, including eye exams (unless I see an ophthomologist, which I can due to Type 2 diabetes).

By "boycott," do you mean refusing to buy the insurance and paying whatever tax penalty is charged?
It would depend on the details. If government subsidies are available to make the insurance affordable to me, I guess I would enroll in an insurance plan. If it's just a mandate to buy worthless insurance at whatever extortionate rates the insurance companies want to charge, then I'll just pay the penalty and continue to go uninsured.

I will also vote against any candidate who supports mandated (or non-mandated) for-profit insurance without a strong public option.

10. If they're gonna make it mandatory, they'd better have hefty financial aid so we can afford it.
What good is it to have a mandate when we still have to choose between food and rent and buying health insurance?
