How many different pronunciations of "Sotomayor" have you heard? |
|
I've heard Sotomayor, Sotomaier, even Santomayor. I'm sure we'll hear many more.

I can see that in the TV people's copy: "Obama nominated Sonia Sotomayor (SODA MY OAR) to the Supreme court."

"Activist", "Liberal", "Empathy wimp", "Baby killer", "Gun hater", and a bunch of other creative ways to pronounce her name.

8. Oh, yes. They're already doing that in |

Freeperton. But then, the morons over there have said that it's not an Hispanic name. One wag said that he'd heard of the name "Soto," but never Sotomayor. Because he had not heard it, it did not exist, I guess.
Plus, President Obama pronounces "nuclear" correctly. He'd get my vote based solely on that criterion.

Considering the fact that people with Spanish surnames were the first immigrants to the present day U.S. and make up a large group of U.S. citizens, it is amazing how media refuses to pronounce our names correctly. I can take finger nails scraping across a chalk board for hours, but the mispronunciation of the name Chávez drives me up the wall.
