Gay and already married in CA? You're Burleigh Grimes!
In one of the more ridiculous decisions in baseball history, while banning the spitball after the 1920 season, major league baseball allowed pitchers who already threw the spitter to continue using it. The most well know of them was Grimes, a Brooklyn Dodgers' right-hander who continued to throw the pitch until his retirement in 1934.

1. NOw that's a name I have not heard in decades. I always loved the fact that they let him
keep throwing his specialty. Such wisdom. Such compassion.

But hey - it's baseball.
