Pet treats with Salmonella recall
Edited on Tue Apr-03-07 11:19 PM by undergroundpanther
Eight in One Inc., a division of United Pet Group Inc., is recalling all packages of Dingo Chick'N Jerky, Dingo Kitty Chicken Jerky and Dingo Ferret Chicken Jerky.

Salmonella can cause serious infections in pets and children, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems. In pets, salmonella can cause diarrhea, fevers, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy and abdominal pain. Animals that do not get sick can infect other pets or humans.

The bacteria could also infect people handling the pet treats. Humans infected with the salmonella can experience fever, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps. It could also cause more serious problems such as arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract problems.

My thoughts...

The RENDING PLANTS. They are the problem.

In an average month, Baltimore's pound hands over 1,824 dead animals to Valley Proteins. Last year, the plant transformed 150 millions pounds of decaying flesh and kitchen grease into 80 million pounds of commercial meat and bone meal, tallow and yellow grease. Thirty years ago, most of the renderer's wastes came from small markets and slaughterhouses. Today, thanks to the proliferation of fast-food restaurants, nearly half the "raw material" is kitchen grease and frying oil.

Recycling dead pets and wildlife into animal food is "a very small part of the business that we don't like to advertise," Valley Proteins' president J. J. Smith told City Paper.

How much meat is in pet food? Sometimes NONE.
http://www.fda.gov/cvm/petlabel.htm

The food INDUSTRY has over taxed this planets capacity to produce so to feed all the humans and critters..So the factory farm came to be, because modern people don't like to raise their own cows ,chickens and can't afford it ,and share with their neighbors, and don't want to deal with the messy and sometimes violent things that must be done to eat meat.... They let INDUSTRY take over the job.And since INDUSTRY has no conscience except profit making, INDUSTRY exploits ,lies ,stretches, covers up ,gets sympathetic politicians in to write laws in favor of INDUSTRY and profits over public health.

When food became a big business is when we as a people lost our freedom, when we let others do the hard work and dirty jobs for us and away from our oversight.. As long as the INDUSTRY controls the food supply , they will do as they please and lie through their teeth about what's in it how it's processed and what it IS .Besides it's very clear Jane Q public cannot have her tender sensitivities upset if it dawns on her her cute shih tzu puppy darling is wolfing down rancid roadkill fat and the rendered bodies of euthanized animals from their local vet.
The food supply is contaminated because of the SOURCES of where the fats, proteins and these "glutens" come from.
You would be grossed out to know how CONTAMINATED even the human food supply is not clean .There is a certain amount of maggots and insect parts and even feces legally allowed in ketchup.Ketchup is loaded with spices and food color because alot of rotten tomatoes go to make ketchup.

People don't like to even consider this, that our food supply is contaminated and it will get worse.. because the demands of the economic system make it this way and most people could not imagine life without cash dominating and regulating thier lives.. Systewms we created demand such wastes be made..and this careless "efficiency" that encourages over production and the stripping of resources to produce as much crap as possible and do it as fast and cheep as possible too.. but it is true. An industry pumping out billions of bags, cans, jars etc.of whatever cannot keep the food as contaminant free as you can prepare it at home IF you know how handle your own food safely.
Nobody has time to raise their own food anymore, for on some levels we are just like the unthinking machines that process our food.

1. My Dogs First Day On Their New "Safe" Diet
So I got home and threw a bag of rice in the microwave, microwaved some mixed vegetables and opened a can of chicken dumped the mixture into two bowls and served it to my dogs. The picky one just stared for a while but eventually decided to try it. They are eating it and on the plus side they aren't wolfing it down. They are eating almost as if human.

3. Commune would be great
But it would cost alot of cash to start up.

I won't be a "leader" in the hierarchical sense.I hate telling people how to live. I'd prefer participation to be voluntary motivated moving from the heartfelt desire to help in the heart to make the commune a nice place to be at. I hate being put in that position to bark at someone to get their ass in gear. But that has to happen sometimes...This is because I see everyone with the capacity for love, caring empathy and being a decent person as my equal and I am very protective of my kind. I would be better suited to keep the commune asshole free,Than again I got to warn you you might have to witness me brutally clawing the living shit out of any narcissist, bully psychopath or sociopath manipulator to keep the commune live-able for the non assholes deciding to live with us there.I just cannot stand co existing with evil hearted bullies, power players and insensitive louts , con men and assholes. I want an ASSHOLE free ZONE.
