Interracial Couple Receives KKK Letter

WARREN, Mich. -- An interracial Warren Couple said they believe the white supremacy group, the Ku Klux Klan is targeting them.

Tia and Brian Maltese said they found an issue of the Klansmen’s Voice, the KKK's newsletter, on the front porch of their home near 12 Mile and Hoover roads.

“I cried for a good 15 minutes and I called my husband and he came straight home,” said Tia Maltese.

The couple said the publication was the Klan's regular newsletter, which promotes a message of hatred and white supremacy, but it was not written specifically for them.

A few of her neighbors also received the newsletter. However, Tia said she feels it was left intentionally on her doorstep.

"I think so because we're the only interracial couple in this area," she said.

Tia described the newsletter photo as very intimidating. "He's holding a gun and he has his hood on and his whole hookup on, and that there is enough said."

The Maltese said the newsletter has left them feeling uneasy in the neighborhood they have been living in for the past four years.

3. This happened to my parents when I was a kid.

My dad's Choctaw, my mom's white.

One night there was a knock on the door some time after dark. My dad answered and found a tract stuck in the doorway. It was about the evils of interracial marriage.

My dad fucking BLEW UP. I've never seen him so mad. He stormed out the door, and was about damn ready to kill the asshole who left it. Lucky for them, he didn't find them.

I asked my mom what was going on and she explained that someone had left us a note saying that people of two different colors shouldn't get married. And that Dad was angry about it, because it was wrong to think something that stupid.

I was too young to realize they were targeting my parents, and by extension my brother and me. Ours was the only door where a tract had been left.

7. I had a black friend who had a white girlfriend.

He had to deal with shit at restaurants and everything. I always figured he and I would end up in a fight some place since he had no intention of putting up with shit, and I would be more than happy to stand with him.

10. My husband and I were dining at the fine local establishment

Popeye's a couple of years ago and this guy, about 20, started throwing pieces of fries and chicken at me and called my husband a n***er and monkey as he walked back from the soda fountain. It was awful. An elderly white couple in a nearby booth immediately invited us over to their table. I was scared.

13. I still have a hard time believing this shit still happens. When

my hubby and I were married in 1973 we had an interracial couple who were part of our wedding. Everybody loved them. We would all go to her (she was black) mom's house on the week end and play cards and party. This was in Indiana no less.It just totally blows my mind to think we, as a nation, are regressing this much.:grr:
