'Jungle Book' girl adapting to daily life

Source: Sydney Morning Herald (Oz)

A five-year-old Russian girl who was shut away with dogs and cats is adapting to normal life after being rescued and transferred to a clinic, doctors said on Thursday.

The girl had apparently not been allowed outside the filthy apartment in Eastern Siberia where she had been found living with the animals, sparking comparisons with the character Mowgli from the "Jungle Book"...

...one problem is that at five years old she doesn't speak...

So, apropos the recent discussion of the right of parents to withhold life saving medical treatment from an otherwise normal son with cancer, should not this little girl be raised in any manner chosen: Why should The State come between child and parent?

Indeed, as "Police had heard different versions of events from the father and the mother, who went to the authorities herself on Wednesday ..." how (hopefully a Christian might respond to this) can The State come between man and wife?

For, did not God reveal in His Book (Ephesians 5:22-24):
Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.
For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.
Therefore, just as the church is subject to Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in EVERYTHING

My view is that just as wives must at times be protected from their god-like husbands (and even vice-versa), so too must children at times be protected from their parents (vice-versa too).

There is hardly enough insanity to go around

That Bible verse gives me chills, always. It is a weapon of oppression.

I agree with you completely. If parents are a threat to their children living, or being able to engage in life as other children in our society do, something needs to be done to help the child. Because someone can physically reproduce does not give them the right to own and harm the people they bring into the world. If some nut shows up on my front porch and says I can't leave my house; that's a law enforcement issue. If parents raise their children isolated to the point that they grow up not even knowing that they have rights as citizens, or if they threaten their lives through withholding medical care; no different from the thug on the doorstep.

2. Do you actually have any evidence that religious belief played any role in this neglect?
It seems to be a tragic case -- but why drag your extraneous prejudices into it?

4. You're being too literal, struggle4progress
Literary allusion is a valid vehicle for emphasising a point.

The Bible is a work of literature; hence, fit for allusion.

Not all biblical quotes are preaching.
Not all biblical quotes are attacks on Christianity.

And some cigars are meant for smoking.

3. I'm curious…
What does this scripture have to do with anything in this story? Either you are really stretching to make a point against Christianity or you would like clarification of that particular scripture. Which is it?

You're right -- there's hardly enough insanity to go around.

8. It wasn't "just a quote" - you can tell by the OP speaking in propia persona just after...
about the "god-husband" business.
