Over the weekend, a poll on Bernie Sanders' "Bernie Buzz" newsletter website regarding single payer health insurance was posted. When it went up Friday night, just over 4,700 people had responded to it, and as of this morning it's up to well over 9,000. DU readers obviously made a tremendous impact, so a big THANK YOU and a :fistbump: to all who took the poll.

Senator Sanders needs our support in the fight for single payer. There has been a groundswell lately (Seattle and other places), but it continues to be up to us to make it a reality. I've sent the website to all the talk show hosts (Stephanie, Randi, Thom, Ron Reagan and Mike Malloy), and hopefully, they'll mention it today as Congress goes back to work.

Let's show Bernie some love and continue to hit it hard and pass it along to friends and family. Thanks!

8. I love DU but,
I've seen so many threads and posts about Susan Boyle. She's fine she gets health care free in England. Let's work to help the millions of Americans who have no insurance or are being screwed by the insurance companies.

Another shameless kick :fistbump:

11. 9459, but...
I'm not sure they are still computing those submissions in the totals. The individual poll totals don't add up to that. It is more around 1000.

I don't get it.

15. I called Bernie's Vermont and D.C. offices
and asked them to take a look at these posts and also to keep the poll up AT LEAST another week! The D.C. staffer said he'd call their webmaster. :woohoo: :bounce:

18. The poll is not about single payer insurance.
(at least the poll that was there when I went) It is about a public health option (the "Access" side of the chart at the "Health Care for All" link on his page. Access has been addressed via HIPPA - not perfectly, but more significantly than affordability has been addressed. We need to use our political capital to address affordability (single payer - or something else that de-links access to health care from wealth).

I am not much interested om a public health option because, first, it does not address the cost of access to health care except indirectly (by competition with the private insurers) and, second,I see a major risk associated with spending political capital on insignificant change and having nothing left (when the insignificant change fails to address the real issues) to effect a "do-over."

Although I would very much like to jump immediately to single payer - I am willing to support any intermediate plan that guarantees access to insurance to all AND makes that health care affordable for people who cannot obtain health insurance for health reasons and who are stuck in a high risk pool (the cost of which in Ohio is currently $14,000/year). A competing public health plan does not.
