And Syria is ready for peace talks.

Tells you who the better communicator is.

"U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, on a visit to Syria opposed by the White House, said on Wednesday President Bashar al-Assad was ready to hold peace talks with Israel.

Republican President George W. Bush had said her visit sent mixed signals to Syria. A spokesman for the White House National Security Council called it "counterproductive" on Wednesday."

1. To today's White House, peace talks ARE COUNTERPRODUCTIVE!
They want war, death, terror, destruction.

So peace is definitely not a part of the plan!

2. It isn't just that this administration
won't talk, noone believes them any more, their credibility is gone, there is no trust. What is hopeful is that other countries can quickly see the differences between the dems and those in the WH now.

3. Counterproductive
pretty much sums up the Bush adventures in the Middle East.

Pelosi should announce reality: The Bush administration is no longer a credible international actor. Given the fact that this administration has squandered its credibility, someone (i.e., her) has to step up and conduct the foreign policy of this nation.

4. If it turns out that her efforts had anything to do with the release
of the British sailors, that little twerp can whine and snivel and throw temper tantrums all day long and it won't accomplish anything other than to make him look stupider than he already does.

5. Mixed signals? Like, "There are sane people here, as well as the insane bunch in the White House?"
I still remember Jesse Jackson going to Lebanon and negotiating the release of a couple of our pilots shot down over there. Later, he went to Iraq and negotiated, with Hussein, the release of a dozen or so hostages being held their, just before the start of the Gulf "War."

It's amazing what starting with the attitude that the other person is an equal can do for the good of the world. Not saying you don't have to be cautious, that you won't be manipulated, and that sometimes you will run into a purely evil leader who will not negotiate in good faith. But Pelosi has already dealt with Bush, so she knows the warning signs.

6. Recommended as much for the insightful comments as the original post
Even if it turns out the release wasn't her "fault," the impression that she had some hand can't be doing the admin any good.

7. Smiling
My heart is warmed today. I love the footage of her all over. She IS making peace, one country at a time.
