Ahh-nuld trying to bust home health care workers' unions
Edited on Mon Jun-01-09 04:43 PM by KamaAina
as it happens, I'm going to Sac this weekend and next week, for a regional disability-related meeting in which CA, obviously, is included. It'll sure be interesting to find out from their people what's really going on up there.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/lanow/2009/05/three-thousand-protest-state-budget-cuts-in-downtown-los-angeles.html

Three thousand state workers, union advocates and home-care recipients gathered outside the Ronald Reagan State Building on Friday afternoon to protest Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's proposed cuts to the state home-care program.

The cutbacks to In-Home Supportive Services, which provides home care to the elderly, blind and disabled, would reduce wages for thousands of state workers. In Santa Clara County, union workers earning $12.35 an hour would instead be paid $8r.
(sic) In addition to the pay cuts, hours of service would be reduced....

Lopez said that if state workers were going to be paid minimum wage, most would probably find other jobs that paid better. That would reduce the number of providers available to watch her son, who is developmentally disabled, while she works, Lopez said. She said she did not get support from her family when she asked relatives to help watch over him....

The rally was organized by major unions, the American Federation of State and County Municipal Employees' United Domestic Workers of America and the Service Employees International Union United Long Term Care Workers.

:grr: :banghead: :argh:

And, the Ronald Reagan State Building?! :puke:

edit: bolding

1. Cut social programs? Check.
Bust unions? Check.

All he has to now is cut taxes, and California's on the road to recovery - GOP Style!

2. Maybe Arnold is trying to emulate Ronald Reagan with the air traffic controllers' union.
He must've been inspired by the name of the state building.

3. I guess this won't effect his father-in-law's care since they have more money
than God. But I would think Maria would protest since she KNOWS how hard of a job it is.

4. Yeah. He's a real tough guy. Beating up on the lowest rung workers
doing the holiest work, for little reward.

What a guy.
