Has anyone noticed KOA campgrounds becoming permanent housing?? |
|
I just read this reader comment on Kunstler's feedback page:
"We recently made a camping trip from Central California to central Washington, and discovered the "RV parks" are rapidly filling up with permanent residents . A few years ago living in your RV for a year or two after retirement seemed a romantic getaway. Now, observing the school bus stop at the KOA, and that evening meeting the harassed woman with seven loads of laundry, you realize that for many Americans, the "full time" lifestyle is a torture of desperation, crowding, uncertainty, and bitterness."
Mr. D and I had talked idly and briefly of the camper/travel/see the country lifestyle a few years ago. But to live permanently in one site....wow.

1. I noticed this at a state park I was at over the weekend |
|
in the campground areas, there were several sites that looked as though they'd been there awhile, and weren't going anywhere soon.

5. My wife and I are ahead of the curve again- |

I went insane, lost my job and health insurance, and then sold everything we owned.
We moved into an old airstream in 2001 and moved to the woods outside a small town in Washington....
I love it. My time is my own because I have to pay 375 a month rent. I own the Airstream.
Compared to the nightmare of having to come up with 3500 a month to feel like my life is successful enough to look down on people living RV's, this is absolute heaven.
Tyler Durden said "The shit you own winds up owing you..."
And that is precisely correct.
ANd my mental health has never been better.

7. To park an RV at a KOA in No Cal |

The discounted rate in a back in spot for a 15 footer is 37+ a night on the KOa discount program. That is 1136 a month, more than I pay for a house. Not sure anyone is saving anything at those rates. Cheaper than LA, but one could rent an apartment even in LA for 1100 plus....
