I didn't change my values because the person leading the country changed
Edited on Tue Jun-02-09 06:58 PM by The Straight Story
I changed my outlook. I changed my perception because of hope for a better future.

And I changed my view that everything they did was bad because the last prez we had simply did not care one wit about people.

And for those that think DU has changed, I don't think it has. People are still involved, still caring, and still looking out for the poor, our soldiers, etc and so on.

The only thing I can see that has changed is now there are some who will defend actions of the commander in chief because he belongs to the same party as they do - and make excuses where before they would have not.

It is not an us (DU) versus them (freepers/rw sites) where we try to prop up our own elected officials. It is us - the people - versus them, the corporations and people who want to keep us down, steal our tax dollars for their own personal gain, etc and so on.

Obama has my support in general, but that does not mean I or others should make excuses for things which we see as not benefiting the public.

DU? We still call BS on politicians when they do things we see as wrong.

And I for one am glad we have not changed.

Means we still hold the same values now as we did under bush.

To me, that is a good thing.

I'll give Obama 8 years - and while we may not have the change we wanted all at once, I believe we will have it...Especially if we keep doing what we have done the last 8 years. Keeping the feet of our politicians to the fire. Cause Lord knows they won't do it just because it is best for us.

If we don't use our voice, it won't be heard.

1. Real debate about real issues. A wonderful change from GOP made up issues
that only serve to destroy.

Today's debates allows us to change the world.

2. I'm taking an "as a whole" approach
While I'm happy to give Obama credit for the things he does right and call him out on things I think he's doing wrong, I look at his presidency as a whole. So far, I'm fairly pleased. I won't dwell on one bad decision, I won't offer endless praise based on a good decision.

I am pragmatic enough to understand that the alternative would have been much worse, especially if McCain had died in office (as 72 year old men in questionable health tend to do). I also enjoyed working for and voting for what will go down as a major moment in American History.

4. Agreed
I didn't change my views. I did develop some hope for a future.

I don't agree with every single thing Obama does, but then I don't agree with everything my husband does either and we're still married.

6. +1
Obamabots are no better than Freepers. As members of a democracy, it is supposed to be our JOB to constantly question our leaders and hold them accountable. That job doesn't end when we elect a Democrat. It only becomes more unpleasant, because we were led to believe it wouldn't be as necessary.

7. One quibble re: "commander in chief"
Obama is not our commander in chief. He is a civil servant, our elected representative, the President;, and the Commander of Chief of the military, to which I do not belong.

8. I see that too
Obama has already done some great things and I've been a cheerleader for those things. There are a couple of things, though, that are antithetical to what I believe and what he seemed to espouse as candidate Obama and I will not defend him for those things and I will actively speak out against those things. I don't give a damn what letter is after his name, when he does something bad, I have and I will continue to call him on it.
