Does anyone here have a link to the story about GW deniers falsely using names of scientists
to back up their arguments? Ther was a list with thousadns of names, and many of the scientists later said their names were forged.

4. FOX does that all the time - "Some scientists are saying...."
The GOP is like the Weekly World News - they can't back up their claims so they just say "a scientist" or "a doctor" or "people are saying" or whatever fits.

12. "Outfoxed"

Some people say that inside Hannity's size 13 shoes are itty-bitty-wee-tiny feet; and you know what people on the street say that means. Of course I report, you decide, but that seems to be the consensus.

11. Here's more
The Oregon Petition

"This fraud is the source of the Denier myth that (variously) 17,000, 30,000, 60,000 etc “scientists have signed a petition saying climate change is not real etc.

The Oregon Petition is a project by Arthur B. Robinson head of the tiny, industry funded so-called Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine. It is an updated version of his notoriously fraudulent earlier attempts , the most recent being the 1998 Oregon Petition.

It’s even been debunked at the Skeptics Society (the irony) “Misleading by Petition Just What is the Consensus on Global Warming? For a thorough debunking of the alleged science accompanying the Petition..."

http://greenfyre.wordpress.com/denier-vs-skeptic/denier-myths-debunked/the-oregon-petition/

The Oregon Petition has been used by climate change deniers as proof that there is no scientific consensus, however they fail to note the controversy surrounding the petition itself. In April 1998, Robinson’s Oregon Institute, along with the Exxon-backed George C. Marshall Institute, co-published the infamous “Oregon Petition” claiming to have collected 17,000 signatories to a document arguing against the realities of global warming.

The petition and the documents included were all made to look like official papers from the prestigious National Academy of Science. They weren’t, and this attempt to mislead has been well-documented.
