4. Actually, if you're in a position to consolidate- it's just about time |
|
As of July 1st, people can lock in interest rates so low that it almost pays to have borrowed money.

7. Because the whole system's a racket |
|
Higher ed > corporatized universities > shackling graduates to long term debt (that the signed up for at age 17 or 18) to make them willing wage slaves (for the next 30-40 years)
It's illegitimate. It should be destroyed.

9. Then maybe you shouldn't have taken the loan |
|
in the first place.
Or maybe "Protested" by not taking the money.

14. Well aren't you special. |
|
It must be fucking great to have parents who can afford to send you to school without you having to take out a loan. Some of us aren't so fortunate. Maybe grants need to be expanded or better yet, maybe college should be free.

budgets are tight, funding for education is being cut, tuition is being raised all over... and the best answer for that is to not pay back the money, already borrowed by students to fund their education.
Yea, ok. Lemme know how that works out.

12. Oh thats the responsible thing to do. |
|
Take the loan knowing what the terms are and then just decide "I dont want to pay it back".

15. Go ahead. You will eventually pay them back whether you like it or not. |
|
The loans eventually default to the Dept of Education and they will garnish wages and tax refunds to get the money.

16. A mass refusal to pay taxes is what we really need |

Or to omit the tax portion that would go to endless war.

17. I understand we cant forgive loans because that how banks make money but... |
|
Instead of giving banks money to restructure what if the govt gave the banks money in exchange for forgiving the debts of people who owe 10% or less of the brrowed amount. THat wouldnt help me I still have about 90% of my $20000 in student loan debt. But imagine the jolt to the economy a lot of people with all that extra money. This would help mainly people who have been out of school for a while but an added $250 a month would help me out alot.
