Omigosh! They had to make a drug to make Brooke Shield's eyelashes longer and thicker!
The drug is called Latisse. Her eyelashes just weren't long enough or thick enough. Frankly, I think the "Before" lashes looked great. http://www.latisse.com/BrookeGallery.aspx?state=31

Honestly, I can't believe there is a drug with this specific, labelled use.

7. I just saw the commercial on TV a few minutes ago
I had "thought" I heard that it could cause a permanent change in eye-color, but then I began to doubt what I heard.
Well, you just verified I was not hearing things!
I don't plan on changing my blue/green eyes anytime soon.

Why can't they just focus on ridding the world of cancer, birth defects, parkinsons, diabetes, heart disease, ms, fibro, mental disease, etc, etc....?

Nope, they need to give 4 hour boners and eyelashes....sheesh.

5. When I was in college we collected our hair clippings, trimmed them to
the length we liked, then we glued them on and brushed on the mascara. What's the problem with the young ones...no imagination?

6. Latisse: Because mascara doesn't have enough side effects.
I could spend $3 at Walgreens and give her results better than that after picture.

8. actually they developed that drug for another purpose
and discovered that it had a side effect that affected eyelash growth. So boom it ends up with a new name and a new marketing campaign. I forget what the original medication was for.

9. The same thing happened with Rogaine (minoxidil).
It was originally developed as a high blood pressure medication, but people found out that it stimulated hair growth in some men or at least slow down balding, and wham! New market path.

16. Also how Wellbutrin the anti-depressant
Reappears as Zyban, a revolutionary smoking cessation aid. Of course it also becomes a problem for people who get a hold of Zyban without mentioning that they are already taking Wellbutrin. They could leave it with just one name and tablets that come in both Zyban range of dosage as well as Wellbutrin range of dosage which would be cheaper and safer as there would definitely be less likelihood of prescribing too much buproprion under two names and triggering seizures. But marketing will trump either of these niggling concerns. Cheaper? Who cares? We can charge the earth for a revolutionary NEW drug. Safer? Not our problem. Patients will aways remember every drug they take from their several doctors and report them accurately to each of the others. That is well known. :sarcasm:

sea sickness. I believe it was used in the Navy but it was discovered it acted as an antihistamine as well.

22. actually thee are two with similar names
one dimenhydramine and diphenhydramine. One is for nausea the other an anti-histamine. I buy the generics and from time to time I buy a bottle of one when I was shopping for the other. But you can see from the similarities of the names that they are closely related molecules.

26. Benadryl. . .
. . . having the side effect of making you drowsy (OTC crap like that just plain knocks me out) means that allergies aside, it is also routinely prescribed for nursing home patients at bedtime, to keep their arses in bed for the night. It is astounding to see how much crap they give to old people just to be able to warehouse them with minimal upkeep (Haldol anyone?)

19. Okay, here it is: it was Lumigan to treat glaucoma. I guess enough of the
drops got on the eyelids and caused eyelash growth. But the FDA still had to approve it for that purpose, formerly off-label.

21. It's a long-established drug.
And there is very low risk of negative side effects when used prior to bed and not in the eyes. The stuff does indeed work - I know.
