Do homeless people have access to cancer screening ? |
|
I understand they might get to the ER at a very late state of the disease , when any treatment is hopeless . But are there institutions that provide care to them when early symptoms arise ?

1. It's not just the homeless |
|
There are virtually no health services for people living in poverty in this country. They can go to the ER when they get really sick, but preventive medicine is not provided for them.
So, to answer your question, no, they don't have access to cancer screening. (there may be some states that provide services like that, but I've not heard of any recently).

We don't have them here (Florida), which is kind of stupid, since this is the land of Skin Cancer. They do have Diabetes and Cholesterol screenings sometimes, but that's about it.
And, yes, if they do find out that they have something, there is no way to treat it.

are the expansion of city and county community health centers across the country. These are usually non-profit and run on a shoe-string. They were initially part of Johnson's war on poverty I think. They are providing a very very slim safety net for our country's health services to the poor.

7. At least you'll know what's killing you? |

Maybe you can write it down somewhere, save the coroner a few minutes of work?
