Anybody here have experience with PetGuard cat food? |
|
Went to the health food store and got some for my cat tonight. He won't touch it. Is that just typical of cat's behavior when you switch foods? If so, how long do they snub it before accepting it?

1. Your cat may never accept. My cat snubbed food for 4 days so I gave in |
|
and tried something different. She liked it. Cats are very stubborn when it comes to food.did you try dry food ?

2. Mix it in increasing proportions with existing food |
|
Unless the existing food is on recall or something, you really don't want to transition a cat over suddenly as they tend to go on food strikes.

5. That is TOO CUTE! Be sure you supervise closely, though, and keep |
|
kitty's claws nice and short.
I think all children should have the benefit of growing up with cats. The world would probably be a better place.

7. My cats will dine on it tonight |
|
Some PetGuard feline varieties are good, others are real duds with my cats. What variety did you put down for your cat? I have a lot of cats and they all like the the Fish/Chicken & Liver and Savory Seafood Dinners. All the other varieties are almost untouched when I serve them. The Turkey/Rice is real bad and the Chicken/Wheat Germ was very good 2 yrs ago but has changed and now I have no cat that will eat it.

We mostly (and currently) home make food for the cats. However, we live over seas in the summer and we thought it was too much of a hassle for our house sitters to make the food. We searched for a high quality canned cat food, and Pet Guard was recommended. We've used Pet Guard for I guess 3 years in the summer and the cats are enthusiastic about it with one exception, I think it was some kind of turkey mash up which they wouldn't touch. This (I think turkey) was very finely ground and very dense and quite dry. The other types are more chunky and wet. We usually add a little filtered water and a mineral supplement. We feed the cats twice a day, for ten minutes only, if the food hasn't been eaten, away it goes. This seems to adjust the attitude a little. Our home made food is from "The Natural Cat" by Anitra Frazer. We've had really good luck with these recipies and these have been the main diets for over 20 years. One of our cats, the late great Boswell was looking pretty worn out at age 11. We switched to home made and he lived to nearly 20 years.

11. If he still isn't touching it, |

you might try Blue Buffalo. I've seen very very very few animals turn their nose up to it, and it's holistic human-grade food. You can buy it at petsmart. www.bluebuff.com
