Love Colbert ........ But.... sickened by all the electricity and security used for show
and the people of Iraq without electricity or only receiving electricity for 3 hours a day.

It reminds me of when Bush when to New Orleans and eletricity used for his speech, and then lights out after that.

Don't get me wrong.. I know he lifts their spirits and he talks of how they need to be home now, in the Colbert way.. but I ready every day of troops being killed.. and how much did it take for the show to be there, and then reminds us of the troops using the palace and it is a mini-America with the stores and fast food you can find here.

I guess cause the other USO shows weren't on the Comedy channel I didn't notice them.

I watched last night and will probably watch again.. but it still sickens me.

Just think of how all the money, and electricity could have helped the women and children of Iraq..
but maybe his show will end the "occupation" by the end of the week.

8. It's not the bill
It's the shattered infrastructure. Iraqis suffering massive unemployment and being unable to pay bills is the cart...no juice through the wires cuz the wires/poles/power plants are all shredded is the horse.

2. Wow, skewed priorities much? Worry 'bout the wrong things?
He was at a base. It uses electricity. Do you think the US usually redirects it to the residents of Iraq?

And don't you think building up the morale of troops is also a worthy cause?

4. Show your concern by donating to organizations that will help the Iraqis
that will help people more than worrying about what someone else is doing.

5. So what's the alternative?
We don't have any R&R for the troops, just simply force them to do their job, day in, day out, without a break, without any sort of mental relief? That's not a bright idea.

Frankly I doubt that the security arrangements were anything terribly special, since this show is already being done in secure area. As far as the electricity goes, it's probably coming off of generators, and therefore wouldn't have been used for the rest of Iraq anyway.

I think that this is a great thing for the troops, and I'm hoping that my buddy who is over there gets to see the show. Everybody, even soldiers, need a break now and again.

9. You do make an interesting point. Greed of the American people.
We open our windows in the summer to save on power and wrap extra layers to save on oil in the winter. I know we are help to save the planet then you see something like that. Looking at it you feel it just zeros out all of your efforts.

You can see all kinds of other wasteful uses all over the place.

15. The FOBs are not connected to Iraqi grid.
At least they weren't when I was there.

"We" generated our own power. The Iraqi grid is too fragile to unpredictable.

The we isn't me specifically or even our unit. An Australian combat support unit generated power for the entire FOB.
