What does Tiller's clinic closure mean for us? Terrorism worked. |
|
Truly, terrorism has won. I'm in shock and almost speechless right now at the news of the clinic's closure. My knees are buckled and I cannot find footing, nor a coherent emotion.

1. The Left has been accused of being too timid to stand up to terrorists |
|
Now I am forced to admit that the critics may have had a point.

The hate that runs so deep with some people. I think some heavy politicians should be speaking publicly right now about this.

when a "rightie" does terrorism, it's in the name of (the currently in favor) God ... so it's okay ...
See all the articles where the people are praising Tiller's assassin ...

26. Don't blame the "lefties" who ran the clinic for being timid... |
|
... they put up with unimaginable levels of threats, harrassment, and overt violence, far more than I have ever had to face. That they managed to carry on for so many years is a tribute to their courage and commitment.
I blame the governmental institutions that failed to do enough to protect the American people from terrorism, especially during the Bush years, simply because they hailed from the "right" side of the fence.

Meanwhile, our government refuses to use RICO to go after them...

More or less.
They know many people sympathize with the shooter.

8. I think it's understandable why Dr. Tiller's family made their decision. |
|
Edited on Tue Jun-09-09 01:38 PM by cboy4
The fact that this family will no longer be operating this clinic does not preclude other physicians from deciding to run the practice in Wichita.
Or for additional clinics opening up elsewhere in the country now because of the need.
It's an obviously dangerous and daunting challenge no doubt, but I think it's too early to wave the white flag.
Of course, I could be wrong, which would be a shame.
But the Tiller family is in the middle of mourning the loss of someone who was gunned down in church. I totally understand why they can't go on with the operation. He was the doctor.
on edit...typo

It never sounded like he was planning on uprooting from his own community.

Dr. Tillers wife was:
1) A Doctor providing services at her late husbands practice. 2) Elected in any way to provide a political response to her husbands murder. 3) Obligated in any way to continue on with her husbands work. 4) Too timid to stand up to terrorists. 5) The standard-bearer for Roe vs. Wade
If she has indicated her willingness in the past to take on any of these roles I sure haven't seen it.
This criticism of her decision is ridiculous.
Now I realize you probably don't intend this to directly refer to Mrs. Tiller but with the number of self-righteous posts I've seen here criticizing her for her unwillingness to continue on after her husband was slaughtered by a fucking nut-job backed by hundreds or thousands of other fucking nutjobs in one of the most backward shithole States in the Union it's getting a little sickening.
Anybody that accuses her of abandoning principles or failing "those of us" on the left should be shot with a ball of their own shit IMO.
Another Doctor, if one can be found, should open a new practice. I hope they do but Mrs. Tiller is under to obligation to any of us to do anything.

I realize what you were trying to say and I agree with your sentiment. Unfortunatly a place like Kansas won't even bother to seek the DP against the prick that pulled the trigger. I for one am giving up on Kansas except for my occassional trek just across the border to Oklahoma Joes BBQ, I can't quit that.
Unfortunately I'm seeing a lot of people getting right near the edge of blaming Mrs. Tiller and their family for closing the clinic.
The owner of the clinic is dead, another Dr. should open a new one that would be a lot easier than trying to convince a grieving family to continue this one.

You cannot even speak about being Pro-Choice in public here in my area. It's taboo, it's even sac religious and evil to mention abortion, no matter the circumstances. I have no one to talk to in my community and even my democratic representatives will not return my phone calls or emails. The Democrats around here run their campaigns proclaiming to be Pro-Life.

for back alley abortionists. There are hundreds of failed medical students, disgraced doctors, self-taught charlatans, and just plain butchers who will step into the breach for desperate women. They will hack away, killing mother along with fetus -- and the blood will be on the hands of the Christian preachers and other hate mongers who brought this about.
This is the way it was before abortion became safe and legal. This is the way it will be again.
Of course, the wives and daughters of the ultra-wealthy will still be able to jet off to other countries to get their safe, legal abortions.

They don't understand that abortion has been around for a very long time, without the expertise and care of a physician. With it being legal, it just becomes safer - not more instances. nt.
