Why is the MSM so fascinated by Guillianni?? |
|
I mean, he is kinda ugly. makes some really dumb remarks that he has to backtrack on. His personal life is a wreck. And people always talk about experience, especially in foreign affairs, RG has none. He was a mayor. Is it because he is not too bright like Bush? Or because the republicans have such a dull and not too great field to choose from that Guillianni is the only interesting one around???

21. That's easy. He singlehandedly chased the terrorist planes out of NYC on 9-11. |
|
He saved the City and America sheerly through his personality and courage.
Plus he chased the pornographers out of Times Square.

then a half hour of discussion. "What does it all mean?"

Are forgetting Guiliani's history.
1. This Italian-American prosecutor PUT JOHN GOTTI AWAY FOR LIFE. Himself. Live in court. 2. This conservative hard-line law and order guy got elected mayor of one of the most liberal cities in the country.
Guiliani is NOT stupid, NOT weak and NOT to be underestimated. I wonder whether the Pubs will be too stupid to realize this.

9. I'd give him "shrewd," but not "intelligent." And the Gotti trial |
|
helped him, but it's awfully old news now, and resonates more in New York City than in Hays, Kansas.
I'm not seeing a GOP primary voter going for Rudy as a first-choice candidate, especially if his opponents begin running ads in December and early January revealing Rudy's positions on gay rights and abortion. something tells me that his positions -- which worked pretty well for him in NYC -- aren't going to sweep those GOP devotees in Hays, Kansas off their feet.
Plus, he's a bit of a dullard. There's not much pizazz to Rudy, except when he dresses up like Marilyn Monroe.
Over the next several months, I think we're going to see "America's Mayor" whittled down to size, and when his opponents' strategists and ad-makers are done with him, he'll drop out.

10. Why do you think Rudy's Stupid? |
|
Don't get me wrong -- I'm a lifelong yellow dog Dem.
But the guy's had a great career. And I DO think convicting Gotti and hammering street crime in NYC plays around the country. Also -- remember after 911? Jesus, he was the only Pub who could string two sentences together. I thought then the Pubs might jettison Georgie Dunce for Rudy in 2004.

18. I say shrewd. But not intelligent. |

If there was the Gotti trial, there was also the unpardonable brutalization of Haitian immigrant Abner Louima, who was told that he would enjoy less justice upon his arrest as he was brutaized by New York City police. It's "Giuliani Time" they told Louima.
There remains the issue of toxic air in Lower Manhattan following 9/11. And there is the on-going matter of his multiple marriages.
I'm not seeing the man maintained as "America's Mayor" for very long. I think 2007 is going to be a very disappointing year for Rudy Giuliani.

23. Rudy also has the bad habit of making fights personal... |
|
...thus making enemies when he doesn't have to.
That goes for little things like the ferret ban (the city had classifed ferrets as wild animals rather than as housepets, effectively criminalizing several thousand owners of pet ferrets, and on a radio show he called them "deranged" for even having such animals as pets) to capital crime cases (i.e., when undercover cops killed Patrick Dorismond when he got in a scuffle with them over NOT selling them drugs (after leaving a bar, an undercover tried to buy some pot off Dorismond. Not being a dealer he told the undercover "no", but the undercover persisted, apparently to the point where Dorismond was angry enough to throw a punch. The undercover's partner shot and killed Dorismond, and it's not clear if they ever clearly identified themselves as police), Rudy leaked Dorismond's sealed juvenile record just to bolster the notion that Dorismond "wasn't a Boy Scout" (actually, Dorismond was a Boy Scout, just one with a minor juvie record). That was a fight that he could have stayed above, but decided on his own to dive into the mud.
A guy who played fast and loose with sealed records just to smear a victim of a cop screw-up may not be the best choice to follow up a Bush admin whose own dirty chickens are finally coming home to roost.

24. Hi, JHB. I didn't know about the Dorismond "Boy Scout" matter, |
|
and most of the other examples you cite.
From the sound of things, Rudy Giuliani likes to bully people. What a yucky piece of work to tamper with sealed records like that.
I'm just pretty sick of Republicans cheating. I'm not saying all Democrats are all angels all the time. But the scale of bad acts by Republicans just takes the cake.

has a bit of the soap opera about him
so, what's not to be fascinated about? What? the press is supposed to ignore a guy so high in the polls?
