yesterday by roadside bombs.

1. Well depends on how you interpret the word Surge...I think of it as a surge to disaster...
in that sense surge is working.

2. The surge was never suppose to work.
It was simply a political delaying tactic for the bushes. They are hoping to blame the Democratic party for all the nonstop failures and deaths in Iraq. They don't care who dies, just as long as they are able to keep their political power.

4. The "War" was won long ago.
The War is and always has been to control as much capital in the US as possible. This war started long ago and each generation of the Federal Government has expanded and chipped away at any constraints used to bind them. Whoa! The Federal Government is Fenris Wolf!

Going to war for territory is so Napoleonic! Control of peoples and resources is so much better and easier to accomplish.

As to the Surge, well an insurgency wins by not allowing itself to be transfixed and destroyed by the focused firepower of conventional forces. So, when a conventional army increases forces in an area, insurgents flow to another area (e.g. Fallujah Nov 2004 Operation Phantom Fury). Insurgents also work on small force multiplier type attacks, roadside bombs against convoys, snipers, mortars into compounds and SAM attacks not only target multiple "enemies" but cause one's opponent to never fell safe and also lash out against the civilian populace (Hadithah Nov 2005).

Anyone saying the Surge is working is either ignoring the history of guerrilla warfare or parroting Freeper arguments or both.
