Krauthammer: 'Fox Did Not Just Create venue for alternative opinion-It created an alternate reality' |
|
Charles Krauthammer on what Fox News Channel has acheived: "What Fox did is not just create a venue for alternative opinion. It created an alternate reality." *** I said some years ago that the genius of Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes was to have discovered a niche market in American broadcasting -- half the American people. The reason Fox News has thrived and grown is because it offers a vibrant and honest alternative to those who could not abide yet another day of the news delivered to them beneath layer after layer of often undisguised liberalism.
What Fox did is not just create a venue for alternative opinion. It created an alternate reality. more: http://www.nypost.com/seven/06102009/postopinion/opedcolumnists/how_fox_news_opened_america_173419.htm?page=0

6. Fox is an "honest alternative"? |

I don't think that word means what Krauthammer thinks it means.

7. Reality has a liberal bias.... ALTERNATE reality has a conservative bias. |
|
Have to agree in principle with Kraut-head here.

8. He has flashes of truth in here... |
|
in addition to the alternate reality comment. :)
"That's why Fox News is so resented. It altered the intellectual and ideological landscape of America. It gave not only voice but also legitimacy to a worldview that had been utterly excluded from the mainstream media."
A completely different worldview. That's what it comes down to. They simply distort facts and truth to fit that worldview. And those who watch resonate with that worldview.
I don't see how the two Americas can be reconciled, quite frankly.

9. Krauthammer is absolutely right about that. Reality-based reality vs. FOX news's alternate reality |
|
Otherwise known as American-style faith-based "reality" or "boneheadedness."

13. MSNBC did the same thing |
|
Yet I don't hear much complaining about that. Wonder why?
Reality doesn't have a conservative OR liberal bias. It simply is what it is. Getting the news through ANY filter other than one that clarifies facts for the public when necessary is ultimately a disservice to viewers and readers.

15. I agree with wanting simple facts, not opinions ABOUT events... |
|
We don't have journalists any longer, as cable news requires 24/7 opinion.
And, if it's stated as opinion, that's fine, but many of these "news" shows say they're stating the "facts," when it's grossly distorted. Of course, you have to have a clue to realize it's grossly distorted.
Obviously KO and Rachel Maddow are progressive commentators, so they do indeed have a filter. I haven't noticed that they blatantly lie, however. Have they? They certainly focus on news stories Faux News wouldn't focus on, and perhaps that's the liberal bias you speak of. I don't believe they've ever distorted the truth or lied about anything.
Please educate me about this liberal media we've heard about forever. As of 9/11, they seem to have disappeared as it was deemed unpatriotic to do their jobs if it involved critique and questioning the government.
