Report Free Republic's scrubbing of potential evidence here ---> |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-10-09 03:08 PM by onehandle
Seriously. If they have nothing to hide, then why are they scrubbing one of their domestic terrorist members' posts? http://www.fbi.gov/contactus.htmhttp://www.dhs.gov/xutil/contactus.shtm

1. What they're doing is not illegal |
|
If the FBI wants to subpoena their server records they still can.

3. I just want them to know. Some calls and emails. That's all I ask. |
|
And we don't know if it's illegal until we know what they are scrubbing.

6. Emails would be good. Don't flood their phones yet |
|
Let these men and women do their jobs. I'm sure they are exploring the entire spectrum right now, especially given the DHS report that documented increased right-wing terrorism.
I'll send an e-mail as a concerned American citizen. This proves today that anyone who doesn't march lockstep with right-wing conservatism is at risk and a potential target - and that includes many, many innocent people.

9. I do not think you are correct... |
|
I do not think, regardless of subpoena, that you are allowed to destroy potential evidence. That would be obstruction of justice. As long as they are simply hiding the posts and not physically deleting them, they should be ok.

14. It's no different than when there is a post deleted here on DU |
|
Just because you (the average user) can no longer see the post does not erase the evidence of the post.
The FBI has Von Brunn's computer and I'm sure they've already been in touch with his ISP. With that they can trace back to everyplace he's been and what he's done on the internet. Bothering the FBI over something like this doesn't make any sense to me. However, to each their own.

16. i agree that caution should be exercised |
|
from having a couple of data retrieval jobs it is actually quite hard to completely erase a web page, a program by google actually keeps historical records of alot of popular web pages. in addition many modern server/database companies keep mirror sites and back ups in case of primary server damage, it may take a little bit but the information is usually still out there. i understand your concern about the destruction of evidence - i actually hope they are trying to do this - another charge to be added to the arrest warrant.

2. This guy's writings are chilling |
|
I've only seen a few clips, but I can't help but wonder why he fought on the Allied side, during WW2. He sounds as if he would have been much more comfortable, on the other side.

4. After the New Deal, Truman and Eisenhower, these guys left the reservation |
|
The only thing that they kept was their fierce, albeit warped, nationalistic view. They latched onto people like McCarthy and his venomous attack against anyone and everything that stood in their worldview. They latched onto racist hate mongers that fought to kept segregation alive.

|
Not surprising, just looking for the info.

8. What makes you think the FBI doesn't already have mirrors |
|
of FR's servers already? All that's happened over there is that the thread has been hidden from public view. I have no doubt whatever that it's still on the server. It's cached here and there, anyhow, so there would be no advantage to scrubbing it.
It's been my theory for some time that a couple of Freepers who actually did illegal acts led the FBI to co-opt Free Republic by making Jim Robinson a deal he couldn't refuse. The site was down for a couple of days right around the time one of those Freepers was arrested, then came back up.
It's fertile ground over there, and too many creepy folks post there for it to be ignored by the Feds. I don't think any reports are actually needed.
Just my theory.

12. I wouldn't be surprised at all that they were on a watch list... |
|
...before January 20, 2001. Let's just make sure they're back on that list.

18. Yeah, that was one of the incidents I was referring to... |
|
I just couldn't dredge it up out of my old brain. There was another one who killed a cop, too, some time before that and was defended by a Freeper, who was banned, then reinstated later on. Can't remember the names there, either.
