"DU" is not an organizational entity. It is self-defined as "one of the Web's most active left-wing discussion boards." The left is a broad and diverse political entity. The point of the discussion is not to uniformly present articulate political publicity to create public opinion for elected Democrats, but rather to further the intellectual development and knowledge of left-wing activists.

I was trying to make the point that, once FR hit the airwaves as it did this afternoon on the cable news shows, freeder trolls were here making posts making it LOOK like they were legitimate DUers. They weren't being overt trolls to those unaware that people do that.

They were saying things most progressives wouldn't say, starting threads with inflammatory subject lines, etc. Even though there absolutely is a wide spectrum of opinion here about many subjects, this was different.

Sorry, I'm not nearly as articulate as you, but -- in my opinion -- there was a coordinated effort (probably still underway) to make DU -- the website, just as FR is a website -- look bad and perhaps even implicate DU as FR is now being implicated in wrongdoings.

I think people on this site are pretty good at unmasking them. But you can't really do away with it, or perhaps shouldn't even try.

The right will always find an "exemplary" case of pseudo-leftist foolishness. If you find the cases cited by right-wingers of "Daily Kos call for (insert ridiculous thing here)" and you actually go the cited post, one sees that the vast majority condemn the original post, and the poster is clearly a provocateur. But there's a lesson by negative example there too.

The thing is that neither FR nor DU should be "implicated" solely on the basis of this or that person's non-criminal postings, even if that person turns out to be a criminal.

I agree it's a fascist site, but why would one poster cause it to be pulled down? Who would pull it down? Every public forum attracts nuts. There, they are the majority, but I don't know if most of them are murderers as well.
