2. So people who come here should respect our customs |
|
and learn our language, but when we go overseas we shouldn't respect anyone else's customs. Love it.

7. Laura Bush wore a headscarf |
|
in a mosque in Jerusalem so the freepers can stick it!
(Pelosi was also in a mosque when she wore one, to answer your question).

The "rules" in Saudi Arabia are quite different from the "rules" in Syria. Saudi women are forced into a much more restrictive set of "sharia" laws when it comes to what they can wear out in public...or even under what circustances they are allowed out in public at all.
I can just about make myself ok with Nancy wearing a scarf since it was only inside a mosque (though I have some issues with the fact that it is required there...another topic for a different flamewar)...but if I see her kowtowing in any way to the ridiculous dress rules for women in Saudi Arabia she will definitely hear about it from me.
Hopefully women in Saudi Arabia will see Nancy walking around with *gasp* her head and *bigger gasp* limbs uncovered and they'll keep on agitating for their rights. Saudi feminists have my respect as much as any group of people on earth...you gotta be brave to be a feminist there. It's like being a Democrat in Texas. :)

Agreed. I don't want to see her wearing head covering in the street either.
You curtsey to QEII in England if she is receiving you over there - especially if you are at the Buck House, but not over here anywhere.

9. Isn't this a common logical fallacy? |
|
I'm not up on all the names for logical fallacies, but I'm pretty sure this is one. The fact that Rush Limbaugh happens to agree with a particular position is not by itself an argument for or against the position.

10. He also thinks the world is round. Should I change my tune on that now? |

I don't really get worked up about the scarf one way or another, btw. The GOP outrage is silly considering Laura and Condoleeza wore scarfs too.

12. Covering the head in sacred places is common in a number of religions |
|
When Nancy Pelosi was growing up, women wore hats to cover their heads in the Catholic church. Heads are covered in various ways in some Jewish synagogues. Remember yarmulkes. How about prayer shawls? There is nothing usual about this. Nancy Pelosi wore her cute short skirt and no headscarf to meet leaders in the Middle East. When she was in the mosque, she showed appropriate respect for religious custom. She was not suppressing her liberated female self. I'm proud of her. She got the right balance. Go, Nancy!!!

13. Who cares about what Rush Limbaugh thinks? Even a broken clock is right twice a day. I'm guessing |
|
he's probably not a big fan of Osama Bin Laden. Doesn't mean we have to change our opinion of OBL. :eyes:
