Education mostly, I know some folks will dismiss this anyway |
|
the WHO declared today a level six pandemic
They also said it is a moderate pandemic
Now for the ignorant round these parts this does not mean it is time to PANIC, but it is time to get educated as to what the term PANDEMIC means. Perhaps next time around, and yes there will be, you will not be making fun of what potentially could be very serious.
Oh and they did say the declaration releases funds for certain mission critical things such as developing and distributing vaccines so this moderate one does not become serious.

1. It's also important to know that "pandemic" refers to spread, not mortality. |
|
As some of us have been saying from the beginning, it's nothing to panic over...but it's also nothing to ignore.
Stay informed, stay prepared.

Was wondering why the fuss when it's killed just over 100 worldwide yet the ordinary flu reportedly kills 30,000 a year in the US alone.

4. Sorry I didn't bother to mention that |

now for more education, what has them scared a tad is the historic pattern
The first wave is mild Check
The second one, in the fall, is not, Why they are scrambling for the vaccines...
The virus is in the process of mutating and adapting to its new host, aka you and me

10. The rate that it spreads, the virulence, and the inability for govts to contain it. |
|
You are right it is not particularly lethal right now.
Remember life cycle of virus is very short and thus evolution works on a whole lot faster timetable.
IF (and I am not saying it is likely) the disease mutated to a more lethal strain it would be a population killer.
A high mortality strain could be next black death. That is what concerns groups like WHO & CDC. Anything, even something non-lethal that bypasses all our medical skills & procedures is a concern.

here are the things YOU can do to protect your community
WASH your hands
Wash your hands
Wash your hands
Stay home when sick
Oh and if you want to go buy a gun, is a virus the excuse you need?

8. Our overlords don't pay us enough to stay home when sick. It hits us in the wallet. |
|
A perfect example is my employer. When you call out for an illness, they deduct from you your paid time off days. There is no sick leave at my place. A lot of people, I predict, are going to continue to go to work even when they are showing symptoms.

9. SInce this is (mostly) such a mild illness, people are working with it, spreading it further |
|
It has spread all over, is still spreading and I think because it has had such mild symptoms (mostly).

11. Yeah I can testify as to how mild it is |
|
I was a good kid and staid home... but I work at home....
I have never EVER gotten the flu that was that mild. It almost felt like a reaction to a vaccine.
