Lieberman not happy with Bush's recess appointment of Susan Dudley

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/04/AR2007040402405.html

<snip>

In addition to Fox, Bush, as long expected, gave a recess appointment to Susan E. Dudley, who had headed the anti-regulatory Mercatus Center at George Mason University, to oversee federal regulatory policy at the Office of Management and Budget.

Dudley's nomination had stalled because of Democrats' objections to her views on issues such as arsenic limits in drinking water, air bags and workplace injuries. She had a Senate confirmation hearing last year, but the Senate adjourned without voting on her and the White House resubmitted the nomination. She has been working as a counselor to OMB Deputy Director Clay Johnson III.

Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.), chairman of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said last week that the panel would give her a second hearing.

Committee spokeswoman Leslie Phillips issued a statement on Lieberman's behalf yesterday, saying that the "decision to recess appoint Susan Dudley shows disrespect" for the Senate's authority to advise and consent on nominations. "Sen. Lieberman was proceeding with . . . the nomination and there has been no suggestion that she would be denied an up-or-down vote in the Senate."

4. Joe's befuddled. He still cannot believe his party's primary voters
passed him up in 2004 for the nomination.

He just doesn't understand why Democrats in New Hampshire didn't pick him.

So he makes comments in the press and is always near that Sunday morning camera, undermining his former party.

13. "He just doesn't understand why Democrats in New Hampshire didn't pick him."
Uuummmm, because they couldn't vote in the Connecticut primaries?

Sorry, someone had to say it.

14. Lieberman was on the New Hampshire 2004 Democratic Presidential
primary ballot, expecting -- evidentl -- to place first.

That didn't happen.

15. If I had read your post better and noticed the year 2004,
I probably wouldn't have embarrassed myself.

Sorry.

18. ASG, my typing isn't what it used to be and it wasn't that hot to start with,
so I appreciate your scrutiny. Long ago there was a Joe Lieberman, a young attorney, who went into the American South to advance as much as he could as one individual, the cause of civil rights.

I have a lot of respect for that Joe Lieberman.

But in truth, I have not seen that Joe Lieberman for some time.

His cozying up to the Bush adminsitration has left me really cold, and I wish he'd come home to the blue team.

25. He got clobbered. He skipped Iowa because he at least had enough
sense to know he'd be slaughtered there. Kerry, Edwards, Dean and likely Dick Gephardt all would have beat him in Iowa.

And he lost big in New Hampshire and STILL wouldn't withdraw, and got petty with all the other candidates who were outflanking him.

It was not helpful to the party's cause and not helpful to Holy Joe's public profile. I consider him a Republican, pure and simple, with the emphasis on the simple and not on the pure.

21. Lieberman supported Sam Fox, he barged into the hearing to
express his support. Lieberman is more than dead to me.

24. I had read of his support for Sam Fox, and added it to the already-long
list of head-up-the-ass alignments Lieberman has made over the last several years.

A former Democrat who wanted his party's nomination in 2004, Lieberman walks into the hearing to express support for a man who paid to smear the character of John Kerry, Kerry being not incidentally the man who got the 04 Democratic nomination -- instead of Holy Joe.

19. Yes, he really, and seriously, does. Mainly because we REJECTED HIM---TWICE! And he KNOWS IT!

Well, that, and his being a malevolent narcissist.

Thus, he watches us die in NYC; in Iraq (and Afghanistan); in New Orleans. And waits for DAYS before even acknowledging the tragedies.

6. don't tell me Lieberman may be trying on his old Jedi robe!
GASP and SWOON!

He doesn't LIKE a recess appointment? Whazzamatter Joe? Didn't get an invite to the Crawford Easter celebration?

Joe's been back in Connecticut for a few days and has probably gotten an earful from his constituents. So we'll see him *acting like a Democrat* until he goes back to washington and re-attaches his lips to Chimpie's hind end. :sarcasm:

11. Well, SUCK IT UP, Joe!
He's your boy, and he hasn't shown any "respect" for the Senate (or the House or the voters) for six years.

So what's the big fucking deal? You're the one threatening to caucus with President Assclown and his posse, so have some STFU and go sit in the corner.
