Just a thought experiment.

For extra credit, what would be their order of finish.

BTW getting lost on the way to the Jeopardy studios is not an acceptable excuse for failing to participate in the round robin competition.

Here is the Education Secretary, for Christ's sake. Putting in an extremely poor performance.

Needless to say, my partner, IntravenousDemilo, who was also recently on Jeopardy, would have kicked her pathetic ass every which way if he played against her.

3. Why, the U.S., of course. Harriet Miers said Dubya was the smartest man
she ever met.

That's good enough for me!

___________________________

Have no idea what order it would be but feel pretty sure Dubya would finish last.

With a President Gore or a President Kerry, I think it would be damned competitive.

9. From first to last:
Angela Merkel (Merkel has a doctorate in physics. She's a smart cookie)
Jacques Chirac (Figuring age and experience to be good for something, Chirac's the oldest on the list)
Tony Blair (wide depth of knowledge, even going into pop culture -- he was a rock 'n' roll promoter, briefly)
Vladimir Putin
Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
George Bush

engineer, and was highly ranked in his university.

OTOH, he is insane.

20. It's the crazy part that made me rank him low. Picture this:
Trebek: "Termed a 'death camp,' this prison saw the death of more than a million Jews during World War II"

Ding!

Trebek: "Mahmoud?"

Mahmoud: "What is a complete fabrication of the Zionist dogs?"

Trebek: "Sorry, that's incorrect."

22. Trebek: "Over 3,000 American soldiers dead and Half A Trillion US Tax Dollars Spent in Iraq"
Buzzzz!

Trebek: "President Bush?"

Bush: "What does winning look like in Iraq?"

Trebek: "Judges?"

Trebek: "I'm sorry President Bush, that is not only incorrect, but quite frankly outrageous"

19. Sounds about right
Putin is fairly intelligent, but USSR and then Russia may have been a bit of a 'specialised' culture to be in, while Blair does travel widely. Then again, being in the KGB meant Putin's job was to know lots of information - perhaps he ought to be higher.

21. That depends on the categories, doesn't it?
Like, what if they do State Birds? Things that end in "eel"? Fatwas of the 1980s? French lit? Opera? Judo? Is it nuclear physics or nuckular physics?

24. It's not just whether one holds and advanced degree
but what it is in, and where you got it. I know many engineers who know poop about anything else. To do well on Jeopardy, I'd say you'd have to have a good general education plus a firm knowledge of culture and pop culture. I say this as the holder of a PhD who failed to get on Jeopardy (barely, according to the way I figured it afterwords--it was my failure read contemporary popular literature that tripped me up the most).

My rankings are below, along with the names of their alma maters and majors.

Chirac Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris political science (?)
Merkel University of Leipzig Physics
Blair Oxford University Law
Putin Leningrad State University International Law
Ahmadinejad Iran University of Science and Technology engineering
Bush Yale Cheerleading

Bush's Yale degree should rank him higher, but he's a C average legacy student, so he's clearly dead last intellectually.

Ahmadinejad, despite being one of the brightest students in Iran, ranks as low as he does because I think the questions in Jeopardy are generally biased in favor of western culture, so any non-westerner would have a tough time of it.

The top three are a tough call. I have a high degree of respect for each of these individuals and their schools. Merkel is a physicist, and may, on that basis, be suspected of being weaker in the humanities than the other two, but, on the other hand, her father was a theologian, and I cannot imagine any better environment for the educational development of a child than in the household of a German theologian. Blair's father was a university professor, but was not himself particularly academically inclined. The edge here goes to Merkel. Merkel-Chirac is a tough call, but anyone who watches the show knows that an older person has a built-in advantage, so long as senility has stepped in, because they have actually lived through more history. Plus, by all accounts, Chirac is an exceptionally smart fellow, so he gets the nod.

26. Bush would still come off looking like a dolt. Remember the 2004 debates?
I can see it now. The answer is stated and Bush jumps in, repeatedly slamming his buzzer and demanding he be heard. When the host calls on him, Bush stares into the camera and says nothing...
