Summer of film
Edited on Thu Jun-11-09 07:05 PM by MichaelHarris
A number of professional photographers are returning to film when deadlines are not the issue. With digital, many throw thousands of clicks at a subject hoping to catch that one shot. It does work but is it fun? Even Kodak has seen the need for a new film product, Kodak Ektar 100. I shoot this color film and have to say it's one of the best I've ever used. What happens when deadlines aren't on the line?

We slow down. At a football or basketball game I routinely shoot 400 or 500 photos with digital, when walking through snow-cover valleys with a 4X5 and some film holders I'm lucky to get off 2 or 3 shots a day. Composition is the first thing that suffers with digital, we simply point and shoot.

A number of photographers have decided this will be the summer of film. Dig out those old jewel-like cameras, load them up, slow down, and shoot some images.

The set-up:

Shot on a 70 year old 4X5 Speed Graphic,100 year old lens, and Kodak Plus-X film.

2. Joseph, Or
just a little north east. There is a lake there that freezes over and is just beautiful.

3. So one can't use digital to compose one shot instead of 450??
:silly:

I treat digital with as much respect as film - and it's the user of the camera who's buttbrain tells them it's just "point and click". It's easier to take photographs to some, but I think it's less expensive per exposure -- there's more freedom to try more angles, exposure settings, et al...

The same mindnumb "point and shoot" lot probably think Microsoft is the bestest company ever too...
