I just watched this flim yesterday. It is superb. Kate Winslet acted circles around Leonardo DiCaprio in a truly moving performance as April Wheeler. It is well worth seeing and is as relevant today as the 1950's time frame it takes place in.
This very sad film offers important commentary about American values and I think a lot of you here on DU would appreciate it.

but I'm looking forward to watching it soon. Kate Winslet is one of my favorite actresses. I want to see her film "The Reader" too.

Excellent flick! "Revolutionary Road" was also really good but both movies are rather depressing.
My favorite movie starring Kate Winslet is "Holy Smoke" it also stars Harvey Kietel (spelling) as a cult deprogramer sent in to deprogram Kate Winslet who had a spiritual experience in india.Whoa!!!! An epic battle between the sexes ensues.

3. If you've ever read anything about the sad life of the author, it's even more poignant. |

After reading the book and a biography of Richard Yates, I couldn't watch the flick. He was good friends with another writer Andre Dubus, who authored the most incredible short stories about the working class, in particular, New Englanders. One of them, a story called "Killings" was adapted for the movie "In the Bedroom," which didn't even come close to evoking the emotion of the story.
