Indian colleges ban jeans to 'protect' girls
Colleges in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh said Wednesday that female students would be banned from wearing jeans and other Western clothes to halt sexual harassment by male classmates.
"Girls who choose to wear jeans will be expelled from the college," Meeta Jamal, principal of the Dayanand girls' college in Kanpur city told AFP. "This is the only way to stop crime against women."

A growing number of colleges in Uttar Pradesh have decided to outlaw jeans, shorts, tight blouses and miniskirts on campus in an attempt to crack down on "Eve-teasing" -- as sexual harassment is known in India.

But many of the students, who are aged between 17 and 20, said the new rules punished innocent females rather than tackling the men who treated women badly.

"Banning any clothing will certainly never solve the issue of sexual harassment," said Uzma, a graduate student from Lucknow University who declined to give her full name.

Hindu extremist groups have in recent months attacked women drinking in pubs and threatened couples who make public displays of affection.

The vigilantes claimed they were acting to protect India's conservative values against the spreading influence of Western culture.

Some colleges elsewhere in the country have previously banned the wearing of jeans, but protests from students forced the dress regulations to be reversed.

3. the guys who have problems with what girls wear are all ugly , this is the truth
i'm not making light of this issue. but they are fucking hideous asses who get attracted to girls but the girls don't want them.

the religious fundies are sexual perverts who most likely have raped young girls . this stuff goes on in india.

5. My Catholic High School forbade women wearing pants even though there

wasn't a man in sight except the occasional priest. I wondered why the priests cared or even the nuns for that matter because we wore ordinary shorts for gym class and athletic games, which the priests attended. They liked watching women compete like the guys. I'm not kidding one of the priests told me that. He thought our games were exciting. Also, he probably didn't mind the boobie bounces and occasional cheek peeks beneath the shorts.

6. many of the indian clothes are much more revealing
they often show bare back, midriff, bra like tops, see through cloth etc.

but it would be harder for girls to get away from ugly ass perverts in those clothes than if they were wearing jeans. and that's probably the real problem these ugly ass sex perverts have.

7. When Israel was facing an increase in rapes,
members of Prime Minister Golda Meir's cabinet recommended that a curfew be placed on women. Meir purportedly responded that a curfew might be a good idea, but that the men should stay at home, not the women. Sounds like India could use a Golda Meir right now.

11. Give me a break!
Why is this ALWAYS the "fault" of the women?
Why is it just universally accepted that to try to change the behavior of men is simply impossible?

15. Worldwide, the Dark Ages are back!
"The only way to stop crime against women" is to ban jeans.

Gee, you'd think there was no such thing as telling the men, "Knock it off, or you'll get arrested!"
